The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord January 10, 2021

WE OFFER OUR PRAYERS for members of our Collaborative who are ill, remembering

    especially: Chrissy, Hank, Peter, Celeste,

    Julia and Kathy

Please continue to keep all those affected by the coronavirus, their families, and our health care workers in your prayers.

    KINDLY REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS

And kindly remember in your prayers

    Lyanna E. Pelles

May her soul, and the souls of all our faithful departed share in the fullness of life and peace with God.

POWIR UPDATE Firstly a thank you! The Rwamuhindas would like to thank the generous parishioners who provided and helped to decorate a Christmas tree and to all those who helped to provide beautiful Christmas gifts for

them. The family were delighted to be able to celebrate their first Christmas together in the US and they feel very connected to the Collaborative, praying with us via the online Masses each week. They especially enjoyed watching our Lessons and Carols on Christmas Day! They are continually grateful for all the love and support that parishioners have extended towards them and are eagerly anticipating meeting you all in person. The family are doing well despite the many challenges of resettlement during a pandemic. The two oldest sons,Thierry and Gentil, have full-time jobs, working at a food plant in Chelsea and their father Emile has also recently secured employment. The three school-age children, Gentille, Jeannine and Gedeon, are enrolled in the Revere Public Schools working remotely, which is of course, very challenging for them, but they are doing very well. A group of

POWIR volunteers from the Collaborative has started a targeted outreach program for new language learners via Face Time. It focuses on the adults, Emile, Rosine, Thierry and Gentil to jump start their English skills. This program is having a huge impact on the family's confidence as they navigate their new life. A complete Thanksgiving dinner was provided by a SJSP Collaborative family, enabling the Rwamuhindas to experience their first American Thanksgiving. When asked if he enjoyed the thanksgiving dinner, Gedeon, the youngest child showed off a newly acquired word: "delicious!"

CATHOLIC GRIEF SUPPORT JOIN VIRTUAL SEASONS OF HOPE GROUP

Seasons of Hope is open to all those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. With the help of scripture, prayer, reflection and small group discussion, we give voice to our unique journeys of grief, and find healing, comfort and spiritual growth. Seasons of Hope is centered on Jesus Christ and grounded in the healing wisdom traditions and practices of the Catholic Church. The ministry is lead by trained facilitators and many parishioners who have taken part in prior seasons have found this program helpful as they grieve.

If you are interested in participating, please contact Laurie Jacob at [email protected] or call 339-222-0335.

Please note the following additions to our Christmas music and flowers in memory of our loved ones.

The Baptism of Jesus. It happened in those days that Jesus

came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. On coming up out of the water he saw

the heavens being torn open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him.

    And a voice came from the heavens, “You are my beloved Son;

with you I am well pleased.”

The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord January 10, 2021

After Jesus was baptized, he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and a voice was heard "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased." As we give to the poor, we also can hear these same words.

As you place your gift in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Poor Box, know that you are a sign of God's love to those who are suffering, and you give them reason to believe and to trust. There are SVDP donation boxes located in the foyer of each church.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international organization dedicated to the poor and disadvantaged by providing individual material assistance on a temporary basis. All inquiries with St. Vincent de Paul Society are held in complete confidence. Please contact either parish office or email us at [email protected]. Please stay safe and healthy, and May God Bless you!

CARING FOR OUR COMMON HOME, LAUDATO SI`

We are now celebrating the 5th anniversary of the Encyclical Letter, Laudato Si': Care of our Common Home. What could be more fitting than starting a dia-logue on how to create our own version of a "common home" here in Wellesley? As Pope Francis stated before a Joint

Session of Congress in September of 2015 (shortly after the publication of Laudato Si'), "Politics is an expression of our compelling need to live as one in order to build as one the greatest common good: that of a community which sacrifices particular interests in order to share, in justice and peace, its goods, its interests, its social life." What can Wellesley do in order to better share its goods, its interests, and its social life? What action steps can be taken to enable a greater diversity of people to call Wellesley their home? Be a part o f the conversation. Please join the League of Women Voters on Thursday, January 14th at 7:30pm via Zoom as they discuss how Wellesley's zoning created our desirable community, but also contributed to Wellesley's lack of affordability. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn our town's history and to help determine how we wish to forge our future. Bring your ideas on how we can ensure that Wellesley's housing reflects our past, present, and future values. For more information and registration call Marguerite Chatelier 617-283-9016.
