The Sacraments of Confirmation (Year6) First Holy Communion (Year 4) and First Confession (Year 3) 2020. There will be ONE meeting for the parents of the children wishing to celebrate these Sacraments next year.
The meeting will be on MONDAY 30th September at 7 - 8pm in the Parish Hall. This will be the only opportunity to register and complete the applications forms. Parents will need proof of
baptism if their child has not been Baptised in St. John’s. Those wishing to celebrate Confirmation must have already celebrated First Confession and First Holy
Communion. Even if you have already completed the application please attend this meeting as the dates and requirements for preparation will be available.
Those wishing to celebrate First Holy Communion must have already celebrated First Confession. If they have not they may prepare and celebrate First Confession this year and then Holy Communion the following year.
There is to be a year between the celebration for First Confession and First Holy Communion. ALL THOSE WISHING TO CELEBRATE THESE SACRAMENTS, LIKE ALL CATHOLICS, MUST BE ATTENDING MASS
EACH WEEK AND HOLY DAY.
Blessed John Henry, Cardinal Newman will be raised to the Altar at the Mass of Canonisation on October 13th 2019. St. John Henry, Cardinal Newman was a convert from Anglicanism and was a great theologian and writer. He was Vicar in Oxford and was led to the faith by his study of the ancient Fathers and history of the Church. He was made a Cardinal whilst remaining a priest, by Pope Leo. St. John Henry was made Blessed by the emeritus, Pope Benedict XVI on his visit to the UK. He will be the first English saint to be raised to the Altar since the canonisation of the 40 Martyrs. We currently have several parishioners living with cancer and undergoing treatment. I will make a novena for those living with cancer, asking the intercession of St. John Henry. Parishioners wishing to join me in the novena are very welcome either in Church at Mass or at home. What does it entail? A novena is modelled on the first novena when the Lord asked the Disciples to return to Jerusalem, after the Ascension, and to wait for the Holy Spirit. They met with Our Blessed Lady, waiting and praying for the promise of the Lord. A novena is nine days of prayer. It is not magic, but rather commitment to prayer. For nine consecutive days (at home or in Church) we undertake to set aside a few minutes, using various prayers to help us, and ‘storm heaven with prayer’. In this case we join with St. John Henry and pray for those amongst us living with cancer. The novena will begin on 4th October (the feast of St. Francis of Assisi) and end on the 12th, the Vigil of the Canonisation.

previous year. I am very grateful for your hard work and commitment to the Parish. We have some challenging times ahead as both the Church and Parish Priest get older and more in need of repair and maintenance!
