SPIRITUAL READING & REFLECTION

Magnificat October 2016

Faith is the acknowledgement of one’s own helplessness — the belief that one owns nothing, that everything is a gift. It is the awaiting of all gifts from God…

It is difficult to believe, but it is even harder not to believe. Try to realize as often as possible that you are not alone. Christ, who has redeemed you, is with you. With a childlike feeling of your own helplessness, try to oppose those fears that depress you. Say to Jesus, “I know that you want to cleanse me from this leprosy; I know that you have already redeemed me from it.” Do you know that you could be the witness to a miracle? Christ said, If you have faith the size of a

mustard seed, you would say to [this] mulberry tree, Be uprooted and planted in the sea, and it would obey you (Lk 17:6). Then you would see that the unlimited power of God is in faith, which in the eyes of the world is such a small “nothing” — just like a mustard seed, the smallest of seeds. You would see that faith opens you to the redeeming works of Christ and, in a miraculous way, removes fear. Then, suddenly, you would feel that you are a free person.

Father Tadeusz DajczerFr. Dajczer(+2009) was a Polish priest and professor of theology in

Warsaw, and cofounder of the Families of Nazareth Movement.

ST. JOSEPH COLLEGE SEMINARY VISITSunday, October 16th — Luncheon Reception: 12:30pm to 2:00pm

We are pleased to announce that Fr. Matthew Kauth, rector, and the eight college seminarians of St. Joseph College Seminary, will be visiting our parish on Sunday, October 16, 2016. All parishioners are invited to join them for a light lunch at Sunnydale from 12:30 to 2:00pm. The Diocese of Charlotte recently opened St. Joseph College Seminary in response to a growing interest in vocations. Bishop Peter Jugis officially announced news of St. Joseph College Seminary on March 19, the Feast of St. Joseph, as it has been “placed under the patronage of St. Joseph, foster father of Our Lord.” In August, eight young men enrolled in the first “minor” seminary, in our diocese, which is temporarily located on the campus of St. Ann Church, but there are plans to build a permanent home on or near the campus of Belmont Abbey College. All of the seminarians attend classes at Belmont Abbey College. The seminarians will begin their visit to our Church by sharing breakfast and fellowship with Frs. Arnsparger and Kauth and our faithful altar servers. The Sunday liturgy at 11:00am will be a High Mass with several of the seminarians participating in the liturgy. Following that Mass, all parishioners are invited to Sunnydale (Tryon) for a delicious luncheon reception to meet and greet these new seminarians of our diocese and to welcome Fr. Kauth back to our parish!
