A NOTE FROM THE PASTOR’S DESKToday we celebrate the solemn feast of Corpus Christi. Our gospel is Luke’s version of Jesus’ miracle of the multiplication of loaves and fish. Jesus instructs His disciples, to provide food for the multitude; they protest that this is clearly impossible since there are but few supplies. Having blessed the loaves and fish, Jesus asks them to distribute them to the hungry crowd. To their total amazement, there is enough for all those present, and twelve baskets filled with fragments remain. The Church has chosen this gospel story for the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, for the primary theme of this feast is the nourishment that Jesus offers us in the Blessed Sacrament. We are now the hungry multitude and we are reminded that Jesus offers us Himself who alone can satisfy our needs. We can readily identify with the disciples as we face overwhelming problems in our own world. We can be paralyzed by the enormity of the challenge. Like the disciples, we feel that we have meager resources for dealing with these problems. Nonetheless, in the Mass,
Jesus offers Himself under the appearance of a wafer and wine that can nourish the whole world. Jesus tells us also to take what little we have and to do what we can with it. There is an implied promise that God will join us and turn our meagerness into food for the multitude…with over abundance. This feast is also about His presence in the tabernacle. We believe Christ remains with us in the Eucharist after the divine meal. Profound respect for His presence is only accomplished when we experience Who is in our midst. He remains with us to be given glory, to hear our concerns and needs, to accept our sorrow and gratitude and to be nourishment for the sick and the dying. Good Bye and God Bless…..On Wednesday, June 26th, the changes in the diocesan priest assignments are taking place. Father Lance Martin has been with us for three years as his first priestly assignment. He is going as associate pastor to St. Ann Church in Bethany Beach. Father Christopher Coffiey has been with us for two years as his second priestly assignment. He is going as associate pastor to St. Joseph on the Brandywine Parish in Greenville. We thank them for their years of priestly ministry among us. May the Good Lord enrich them in their new assignments. Both priests will be available at the vestibule of the church at Masses, this weekend, to say good bye. Go with God… With summer here, the final project of The Sustaining Hope for the Future Campaign will be accomplished. This final project is the improving of outside lighting in our parish parking lot. Commercial lighting will be installed in strategic areas to illuminate the parking lot and create a safer atmosphere. To one and all who contributed to the Sustaining Hope for the Future Campaign, Thank You.

Family Promise Week is July 1 – 5 SJBDE is supporting Limestone Presbyterian with a week of hosting. “Family Promise of Northern New Castle County is a nonprofit, 501(c) 3 organization that prevents and ends homelessness for families by engaging faith based congregations, volunteers and donors.” Three times a year SJB assists Limestone Presbyterian by preparing the five weekday dinners. Knights of Columbus, Youth Group and Boy Scouts have graciously volunteered to do one night each. We are looking for donations of either a main course, salad, bread, vegetable, starch or a dessert for one other night. We prepare enough food for 18 - 20 people. Marriage Moments: As spouses we share each other's joy and pain. Taking care of each other is part of being married. Sometimes this means meeting physical needs like food and other times it's emotional comfort. Feed each other today.

The Eucharist — On feasts such as this, we recall miracles like the wedding feast at Cana or the multiplication of the loaves. Perhaps we remember the road to Emmaus, when Jesus was made known "in the breaking of the bread." In these stories, God satisfies our hunger in a supernatural way. But the cry of the human heart goes much deeper. "Man cannot live on bread alone," after all.
In the Eucharist, God's supernatural presence takes the form of physical food. In the absence of physical nourishment, the body slowly begins to break down. Without an intentional pursuit of spiritual nourishment, our souls will similarly suffer. Our inner lives need rest and rejuvenation. We need daily connection with our Creator. We need to receive from the One who feeds us. The radical reality of the Eucharist speaks to our deeper aches, to the God who alone satisfies.
INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK — How can we ever succeed at truly loving God and our neighbor and fully embrace Gospel living? Achieving this goal without an intimate connection with Christ is impossible. The Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Christ, connects us with God in a unique and most intimate way. His very life and presence is wedded with ours. Being forgiven and nourished, we are given the strength and conviction to pick up our wounded and broken lives and be living heralds of Good News. Our world is broken and needs authentic, living witnesses to bring it back to truth. Nourished by the Body and Blood of Christ, are you ready to be sent?

CATHOLIC LIFE EXPLAINED — Question: How do you explain "Real Presence" to children. Answer: The first Communion class is filled with excitement to the point of bursting! They are just awestruck by every new thing they learn about Jesus. Their enthusiasm is contagious as they rattle off the names of the things in church, the vessels and vestments used at Mass, and the names of their pastors and priests. Of course, they know Christ can do anything because he's God. He comes to us in holy Communion because he loves us so much that he wants to be with us. And he comes to us in the form of bread and wine. We really receive him in the Eucharist.
Sometimes it is easier to explain this to children than to adults. Their faith and trust in Jesus is not limited by the questions and doubts that often come with the question of how he does it. Rather, they focus on the question "why," and the answer is something they can easily grasp: love. Christ wants to be with us because he loves us. Nothing is purer in truth or in faith. Not even the theological explanation of transubstantiation, or philosophical reasoning or symbolic references, come close. Christ takes on the form of bread and wine
to be simple and approachable, so that no one is afraid or turned away. His love for us is complete and total. We try to love him the same way in return. For a child, it is simple. For us adults, we keep trying. "Unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven" (Mt 18:3).

GROWING WITH THE GOSPELJesus told his friends to give a whole crowd of people something to eat. All they had was a little fish and bread. How could they possibly feed all those people with so little food? God gave them what they needed to help other people. When you want to help other people, trust God to give you what you need.
Prayer: Dear God, with your power I can really help other people.
