Bulletin editor Eileen Nimm, 715-931-9116,
The Fourth Sunday of Lent is the
midpoint and known as Laetare
Sunday. Laetare means “rejoice”
and the Church expresses hope
and joy in the middle of our
penitential Lenten practices. USCCB
Lord of Lent, Lord of Easter, as You
went into the desert, so do I follow
putting aside that which distracts
me, grabs at me, falsely claims me.
To search inside, to confront myself
my best, my worst, my good works
and my sins. And each time, I find
You there to call to me again with
words of challenge and words of
mercy. And as I fall to my knees, in
prayer, in fasting, in sacrifice and
penitence somehow, You have it in
Yourself to reach out and gently lift
me to renew me, to claim me as
nothing of this world can claim me.
Meet me in the desert, Lord. Claim
me anew. Amen.
Catholic Relief Services
Three tips to deepen your relationship
with God during the 40 days of Lent
1) Participate in the sacraments. 2)
Help those in need around you. 3)
Sacrifice something that’s hard for
you. USCCB

Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus,
I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there
and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen
March 14 – Fourth Sunday of Lent
The Chaldeans have attacked
and absolutely destroyed Jerusalem.
What they could not carry back to
Babylon they destroyed.
The craftsmen and artisans were
all marched to Babylon as well. It
would be 70 years of exile before
the Persians would defeat the
Chaldeans. Cyrus would be king.
Sometimes we forget that this is
God’s plan. When our world seems
at an end and we cannot find any
good around us, God brings light
into the world, so we understand.
The children of Israel had turned
from God. For generations they
have not listened to God’s prophets.
Rather than trusting in God, they
trusted in their leaders. This all led to
their downfall.
Cyrus would be a most unlikely
ally. Not even Jewish, God planted
a seed in his heart to let the Israelites
return to their homeland. And even
financed part of the rebuild, which
would eventually include the temple.
God wants to save all people,
even if they are not Catholic or
Christian. He really does have a
plan for each person. Think about
this for a minute. Do you realize
there are people in world, who may
or may not be Christian, that are
making decisions for you that could
be for good fortune or possibly
cause you harm? And this is part of
God’s plan for you?
We get so focused on what we
are doing and how we are doing it
we forget others do influence what
happens and how our decisions are
made. That is why we should al-
ways give thanks to God for all that
happens, good or bad. It is part of
God’s plan.
Consider Our Lady’s Treasures Gift Shop at Our Lady of Lourdes Church for
the perfect Easter, First Communion and Confirmation gift! The shop at the
main entrance of the church carries rosaries, medals, statues, crucifixes, spiritual
reading books and many other religious items. We are open Saturday after
the 4 pm Mass and Sunday after the 10 am Mass. Or contact Judy Pottinger at
715-236-3165 for a time that is convenient.

The Feast Day of St. Joseph
Friday, March 19
March 19 became the fixed feast
day for St. Joseph under Pope
Sixtus IV in 1479.
We pray today for all fathers, that
through the example of St. Joseph,
they may fully embrace their vocation
and accept the privilege and
responsibility of caring for their children
as St. Joseph cared for Jesus.
USCCB
“He is Holy Joseph, because no other
saint but he lived in such and so
long intimacy and familiarity with
the source of all holiness, Jesus, God
incarnate, and Mary, the holiest of
creatures. John Henry Newman
In families striving to stay intact through adversity, Let us see Christ.
In the poor and lowly of the world, Let us see Christ.
In those forced to leave their homes because of war or famine, Let us see Christ.
In children who go to bed hungry and who cannot attend school, Let us see Christ.
In those who are living with HIV/AIDS and other diseases, Let us see Christ.
In immigrants and refugees seeking freedom and hope, Let us see Christ.
In those who are orphaned or abandoned, Let us see Christ.
In the elderly who are forgotten, Let us see Christ.
In those who struggle to find meaningful work, Let us see Christ.
In those who work for justice and peace for all people, Let us see Christ.
Let us pray, Jesus, teach us to recognize your presence in those who are
in need. May we give of ourselves in service to them and so hasten the coming of
the Kingdom you have promised, where you live with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen. usccb
The March 13-14 World Concern Collection funds provide food to the hungry,
support displaced refugees and bring Christ’s love and mercy to vulnerable
people here and abroad. Please give generously and help Jesus in disguise. Learn
more about the collection at www.usccb.org/catholic-relief.

PRAYER to ST. JOSEPH
Teach us to listen and not be afraid to trust as you did in God’s
Promise. Teach us to love courageously with a heart that is free
and just. Teach us to protect one another and all that belongs to
God. Teach us to dream a world where all are neighbors, a vision
illumined by God’s light. Teach us to keep the word of God close to
our hearts, and to proclaim it in word and action. Teach us to be gentle with
power and strong in our tenderness. Teach us to be for our children a
living lesson of goodness and truth, a blessing of hope for all
generations to come. Amen.

St. Joseph Catholic School Eighth-Graders Raise the Bar on Giving
During Catholic Schools Week, January 31 – February 6, eighth-grade
students at St. Joseph Catholic School led the way for the entire school in
a food drive to support the ministries on Heart Island in Rice Lake, WI. Each
classroom had a competition to bring in the highest number of items each
day, and the eighth-graders spent time daily tallying the donations and
organizing nonperishable items for easy delivery to Heart Island Ministries.
Our Students collected a MOUNTAIN of nonperishables, toiletries, baby
supplies, hats, mittens and more to benefit the programs on Heart Island.
They collected 2,954 items in total as a school community. Our eighth-
grade class did an incredible job leading this effort. They received a
handwritten note from the Board of Directors at the Family Enrichment
Center for their generous donations. These same eight-graders are cur-
rently leading an effort to raise $5,000 for the Stensrud Family who recently
lost their home to a fire. As of March 4, they were happy to announce
that the school has raised nearly half of their goal. To learn more about
how to give toward this effort, visit our website at https://sjsricelake.org/8th-grade-
service-project/.

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP
RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR
ORDINARY MOMENTS
Awake, O Sleeper!
This morning came a little earlier
than I would have liked — Daylight
Savings Time always does. Sometimes
that morning sunlight seems more
intrusive than illuminating. You’re still
half-lost in sleep, and that sun is demand-
ing of you a lot more than you’re
ready to give.
I’ve said it, and I’m sure you’ve
said it, too. “Just five more minutes.”
You hit the “snooze” button on your
iPhone once (maybe twice? Show
of hands?) and turn away from the
window.
So many kings of the Old Testa-
ment were steadfast in their sleepy
ways, rejecting the light their God
tried to share with them. Likewise,
John tells us that, though Light —
Christ — was sent into the world, the
world preferred darkness.
Sometimes it seems, when reading
through Scripture, that all throughout sal-
vation history, God has been trying
to pull back the curtains, to rouse us
from our defiant slumber. And we
resist Him. Time and time again, we
resist Him. Light brings a certain re-
sponsibility with it. It seems to compel
productivity. Furthermore, there’s no
hiding in the light. Any photographer
worth his salt knows how to manipulate it,
highlighting the good and casting
some merciful shade on the bad.
As we enter into the fourth week
of Lent, we’re getting so close to the
main event. Can we handle the light
that will come on Easter morning, burst-
ing into the tomb as the stone is
rolled away? Can we keep our-
selves from hitting the “snooze” but-
ton on our souls, and sit up to face
the dawn of a new day?
