To be holy is nothing special. Holiness is supposed to be a normal part of everyone’s life. Everyone is called to be holy. Holiness is not just something had by those who the church recognizes as saints. They are recognized as holy because they were holy in some special way and are therefore examples for us to follow. What is holiness? Holiness is something very simple. Ho-liness means trying sincerely to live as Jesus teaches. If you try to love God above all things, you are holy. If you try sincerely to love everyone as Jesus does, you are ho-ly. Our holiness may not be perfect because we are hu-mans. We will always be imperfect. Even the saints rec-ognized by the church –except Mary- had their defects. Each person’s holiness will be different. Each person’s life is different. Each person needs to live the teachings of Jesus in whatever happens in his life. How we live as Christians with those persons who we don’t like, how we face the conflicts we have in our lives, how we use the things we have in our lives, how we relate to those who are in need, how we relate to those who offend us. All those parts of our lives we are to live as followers of Je-sus. If we try to put God first and love everyone as Jesus does, we are holy even though not perfectly holy.
Una nota para ti: Ser santo no es nada especial. Se supone que la santi-dad es una parte normal de la vida de todos. Todos esta-mos llamados a ser santos. La santidad no es algo que tenían los que la iglesia reconoce como santos. Son re-conocidos como santos porque fueron santos de alguna manera especial y, por lo tanto, son ejemplos que debe-mos seguir. ¿Qué es la santidad? La santidad es algo muy simple. La santidad significa tratar sinceramente de vivir como Je-sús enseña. Si tratas de amar a Dios por encima de to-das las cosas, eres santo. Si tratas sinceramente de amar a todos como lo hace Jesús, eres santo. Nuestra santidad puede no ser perfecta porque somos humanos. Siempre seremos imperfectos. Incluso los santos recono-cidos por la iglesia -excepto María- tenían sus defectos. La santidad de cada persona será diferente. La vida de cada persona es diferente. Cada persona necesita vivir las enseñanzas de Jesús en cualquier cosa que suceda en su vida. Cómo vivimos como cristianos con aquellas personas que no nos gustan, cómo enfrentamos los con-flictos que tenemos en nuestras vidas, cómo usamos las cosas que tenemos en nuestras vidas, cómo nos relacio-namos con aquellos que lo necesitan, cómo nos relacio-namos a los que nos ofenden En esas partes de nuestras vidas debemos vivir como seguidores de Jesús. Si trata-mos de poner a Dios primero y amar a todos como lo ha-ce Jesús, somos santos aunque no perfectamente san-tos.
