THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD
My Dearest Brothers and Sisters in the Infant Savior,
This is my third of three letters to you that are fairly
short in length because these last three bulletins had to go to press
way back on December 18th.
This weekend, we celebrate the Solemnity of the
Epiphany of the Lord Jesus Christ. There are three mysteries
celebrated today: the making known of the Christ Child to the
Three Kings who represent the three areas of the then known
world; the Miracle at the Wedding Feast at Cana; and the Baptism
of the Lord which will be celebrated next Sunday, January 13th
which will bring the Christmas Season to its conclusion.
As I wrote to you last weekend, the Christmas Season is
as long as it could be this year or a total of 20 days. In my homily
this weekend, I will speak about the three Epiphanies or
manifestations (the making known) to the Gentile world of the
Christ.
Also, our parish activities resume. The Instructional
Prayer Meeting will be this Sunday, January 6th; most fittingly, I
will describe the meanings behind the Advent and Christmas
Seasons from 12 Noon until 1:00 P.M.
You are most welcome, as well, to our next second
Tuesday of the month Parish Meeting which starts at 6:30 P.M. on
Tuesday, January 8th. The Parish Meeting will continue to focus
on the Evangelization of our brothers and sisters in our
community who are Catholic in the hopes of bringing them back
to the Sacraments and Holy Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of
Obligation plus attempting to reach folks who are not Catholic but
would want to become practicing Catholics.
Religious Education (Faith Formation) resumes this
Monday, January 7th, from the usual times of 6:05 until 7:35 P.M.
Hope Rocks for 2019 will have its first planning meeting
on this Thursday evening, January 10th, starting with the set up at
5:00 P.M. and concluding by 9:00 P.M. You are most welcome to
attend and join in this very worthy cause that can save many lives.
I want to thank all the folks involved with Hope Rocks for all that
they have done in the past and what they plan to do in the future.
Finally, the Church Store will be open for business next
weekend at the usual times during Saturday, January 12th, from
3:30 until 5:00 P.M. plus after the 5:00 P.M. Holy Mass and on
Sunday morning, January 13th, after the 8:30 and 10:30 A.M.
Holy Masses.
May I wish to all of you a continued Merry Christmas
Season and a Happy New Year.
Sincerely, with prayers,
Father Bill Woodruff

MAKING ALL THINGS NEW
God our Father, through the Gospel and the Eucharist,
You bring us together as Your Church in the
Archdiocese of New York.
Send us Your Holy Spirit, to enlighten our minds and guide our
actions as we plan for the future of parish life in this Archdiocese.
Help us learn new ways to strengthen and revitalize our parish
communities, and to be good stewards of the spiritual and
material gifts that sustain them.
Bless our work, so that our parishes may continue to witness to
the truth of the Gospel, and be a sign of Your love for all people.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

MISCHIEVEOUS BROTHERS
Two little boys, ages 8 and 10, are excessively
mischievous. They are always getting into trouble and their
parents know all about it. If any mischief occurs in their town, the
two boys are probably involved.
The boys' mother heard that a clergyman in town had
been successful in disciplining children, so she asked if he would
speak with her boys. The clergyman agreed, but he asked to see
them individually. So the mother sent the 8 year old first, in the
morning, with the older boy to see the clergyman in the
afternoon.
The clergyman, a huge man with a booming voice, sat
the younger boy down and asked him sternly, "Do you know
where God is, son?" The boy's mouth dropped open, but he made
no response, sitting there wide-eyed with his mouth hanging
open. So the clergyman repeated the question in an even sterner
tone, "Where is God?!" Again, the boy made no attempt to
answer. The preacher raised his voice even more and shook his
finger in the boy's face and bellowed, "Where is God?!" The boy
screamed and bolted from the room, ran directly home and dove
into his closet, slamming the door behind him. When his older
brother found him in the closet, he asked, "what happened?" The
younger brother, gasping for breath, replied, "We are in BIG
trouble this time dude. GOD is missing, and they think we did it!

They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house
they saw the child with Mary his mother. They prostrated them-
selves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and
offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
