TO ALL MEMBERS OF ST JOHN’S CONGREGATION: As was reported in all three services two weeks ago, The Pastoral Search Committee has
recommended to the Church Council that Rev. John Richter be the next Senior Pastor of St. John’s
Church. This decision was made after a meeting of the Search Committee on July 15th
. At that point,
the information was passed on to Church Council President Buddy Franey for Council consideration.
We appreciate the patience of the congregation while this matter was being resolved and ask for your
support.
Your Pastoral Search Committee
The Church Council met on July 25th
and agreed with the recommendation from the Senior Pastor
search committee to proceed forward with the process of making Rev. John Richter the next Senior
Pastor of St. Johns. With the formal announcement being made on Sunday July 27th
in all three
services, the church council has set a date of August 14th
at 6:00 pm for a Congregational
meeting for a question answer time with Rev. John. The following Sunday, August 24th
has been
designated the day to have the congregational vote in all three worship services for Rev. John to
become the next Senior Pastor.

St. John’s Church is…..
Rooted in the doctrines of the Protestant Reformation. We believe we are saved by grace through faith in
Jesus, that the Bible is the rule for Christian life and faith, and that the Good News of Jesus should be
proclaimed in word and deed. Sacrament Celebrating. We believe God ministers to the community of believers in unique and special ways
through Baptism and Holy Communion. Liturgically Oriented. We believe remembering the whole life of Christ is important for spiritual maturity. We
follow the church calendar, celebrating seasons like Advent and Lent. Ecumenically Minded. In the context of our heritage, we believe all those who call upon Jesus as Lord will
share in his eternal blessings and so we welcome all believers who join us to participate fully in worship.
Thanks for visiting with us today! Feel free to call one of the pastors, Rev. John, Rev. Steve, Pastor Stephen or

CHUCKLE FOR THE WEEK
A businessman from Tulsa, Oklahoma, went on a business trip to Amarillo, Texas. He immediately sent an e-
mail back home to his wife, Paula. Unfortunately, he forgot his wife's exact e-mail address and the e-mail ended
up going to a Mrs. P. Arnold in Rapid City, South Dakota, the wife of a preacher who had just died. The
preacher's wife, Penny, took one look at the e-mail and promptly fainted. When she was finally revived by her
daughter, Penny hysterically pointed to the message, which read, 'Arrived safely, but it sure is hot down here.!’
Last Sunday

CHURCH COUNCIL MEMBERS

Richter, Robin Sandlin, Pam Scott, Jim Thompson, Rusty Turner.
HOW DOES ST. JOHN’S EXTEND A CALL FOR A NEW SENIOR PASTOR? For only the third time in over forty years we will be calling a new Sr. Pastor to lead St. John’s.
After a Senior Pastor announces his retirement/resignation, the Church Council serves as, or appoints, a Search
Committee. After establishing a vision for pastoral leadership (gifts, qualities, attributes, expectations, etc.) in
accord with Article VIII of the Constitution, the position is announced through a variety of places (web sites,
seminaries, etc.). Interested individual’s present resumes to be reviewed by the search committee.
When the Search Committee has selected the person they feel God has called to be the new Sr. Pastor, they (the
Search Committee) present the candidate to the Church Council for approval and formal nomination to the
Congregation.
Following the nomination, several opportunities will be made available for the congregation to get to know the
candidate and his family. This process concludes with a sermon delivered during Sunday morning worship.
This process is done in accordance with our Church Constitution: ARTICLE VIII, SECTION 7. The Council shall nominate one candidate for Pastor to be voted upon by the
Congregation. The Congregation shall consider only one candidate at a time and shall vote by ballot for his
election or rejection. A Pastor is considered to have been elected if he is acclaimed by a two-thirds majority of
those communicant members attending the Congregational meeting, provided a quorum is present. A quorum is
said to be ten percent of the communicant members.
A congregational meeting will be called to order before the first service on the day the prospective pastor
preaches and adjourned after the last service of that day. A congregational vote, by ballot, will take place at the
conclusion of each service on that day. Votes will be tallied and results announced following the last service.
