NORTH WEST OHIO MISSION DISTRICT IS FORMED
St. John’s congregation is now a part of the North West Ohio Mission District, a new territory that was formed on May 9 at the annual Ohio convocation. Previously we were part of the Ohio Mission District. We have now divided Ohio into five districts, for better service to the congregations. We have no professional staff, so the Dean for all of Ohio was a pastor serving his congregation full-time. He was also trying to stay in touch with the needs of nearly 60 congregations across Ohio. This wasn’t working out very well! So our new district has one Dean and 7 congregations. The congregations will be able to work more closely together, and when a congregation has a specific need (calling a new pastor, or resolving conflict, etc.) the Dean will be better able to provide resources. The district stretches from Jackson Center in the south to Montpelier in the north, and also includes congregations in St. Mary’s, Leipsic, Payne, Rockford, and Chattanooga. Our Dean is Pastor Bill Maki, of Zion Lutheran Church in St. Mary’s. The district has an executive council to guide our work, and from our congregation Pastor Paul (secretary) and Merlin Wright (lay representative) have been elected to serve on the executive council.
