Prayer to St. Thérèse,

the Little Flower

O Glorious St. Thérèse, whom Almighty

God has raised up to aid and inspire the

human family, I implore your miraculous

intercession. I fervently beseech you to

answer my petition…(here state your

request)...and to carry out your promises of

spending Heaven doing good upon earth.

Little Flower of Jesus, give me your

childlike faith, to see the face of God in all

people and experiences of my life, and to

love God with full confidence. Help me to

always believe, as you did, in God’s great

love for me, so that I might imitate your

“little way” each day. Amen.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4:10

The Franciscan Friars invite you to join them in welcoming St. Anthony of Padua to Saint Anthony’s Church, Barstow

Street, Mattapoisett. Holy Mass at 8 AM, Veneration after Mass until 1:30 PM. St. Anthony will be visiting in the form of

two precious and first-class relics from the Pontifical Basilica in Padua, Italy. The relics will be accompanied by Father

Alessandro Ratti, one of the OFM Conventual Franciscan Friars who minister in the Basilica where the Saint is buried.

Prayer petitions with holy cards will be distributed by Friar Alessandro to allow parishioners to write their personal

prayer petition to the saint. The writing of your intentions is a worldwide tradition when venerating a relic of a saint.

Father Alessandro will bring the petitions back to the Basilica in Padua and place them at the tomb of St. Anthony. The

tour officially ends back at the Tomb of St. Anthony where the Friars will gather to pray for our intentions and petitions.

To learn more about St. Anthony of Padua, please visit: www.saintanthonyofpadua or call Tom Muscatello, North

America Representative, at 914.263.8841. The relic of St. Anthony will also be visiting St. Anthony of Padua Church

in New Bedford on August 29. Please call 508-993-1691 for more information.

From the Moderator

Catholic Community of New Bedford North

Youth Ministry. St. Mary’s already has a budding nucleus for youth ministry, and we hope to enlarge the group by

reaching out to St. Joseph-St. Therese and Our Lady of Fatima, inviting their young people to participate and live

their faith. We have already begun planning our Sunday evening 7PM as a Youth/Young adult Mass. ALL are wel-

come, but we hope to especially reach our teens trough prayer and worship by introducing a modified life teen pro-

gram, Again, we will be bringing together all of those who have volunteered in this area in the past. There are bright

lights in all our parishes. St. Joseph-St. Therese has a vibrant scouting program that can be expanded to the youth of

the collaborative to develop another avenue of supporting our young people.

Administration. Instead of replicating the same tasks and roles three ways, we are slowly bringing all our administra-

tive roles into a unified vision. This will not only save some money, but it will also improve the services we can pro-

vide to our collaborative. Work continues discerning and developing a central administrative office space. We are de-

veloping a new central data base with parishioners from all three parishes to allow quicker and more efficient means

of record keeping and communication.

Patience. Is a virtue that is needed to be practiced by all at this time. There are going to be bumps in the road. We are

learning to fly the plane while the plane is airborne. We are working on multiple areas simultaneously while monitor-

ing mass attendance and finances and hearing the compliments and frustrations of parishioners. Give us the time to

sort things out and orchestrate this new paradigm. In short, don’t jump out of the plane, (even with a parachute) you

have two pilots and a crew working hard to get through the turbulence and arrive at our destination safely.

An adjustment in our Tri-Parish Mass Schedule:

On June 30th, when the Catholic Community of New Bedford announced its mass schedule, we shared also that we

would “monitor mass attendance closely and continue to meet and make adjustments along the way, until together, we figure out what mass schedule will be best for everyone.” After doing just that these past few weeks, Fr. Raposo and I would like to make two adjustments:

The noon mass on Tuesday and Thursday at St. Joseph-St. Therese will move to 8AM to allow more regulars from

all three parishes to attend beginning July 23rd. A 6:30pm evening mass is being discussed for the fall de-

pending on parishioner interest.

We will add a Saturday, 5PM Vigil beginning July 27th at Our Lady of Fatima. The church is air conditioned and

may be more comfortable for some of older parishioners during the warmth of these summer months. Fr.

John and I will be alternating churches for the vigils as we have been doing for the Sunday schedule.

Please know, we will continue to monitor mass attendance and make minor adjustments along the way, until togeth-

er, we figure out what mass schedule will be best for everyone. We remain grateful for your continued patience and

prayers.

Today is the Peter’s Pence Collection, a

worldwide collection that supports the charita-

ble works of Pope Francis. Funds from this

collection help victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters. Take this opportunity to join with Pope Francis and be a witness of charity

to our suffering brothers and sisters. Please

be generous today. For more information, visit

www.usccb.org/peters-pence.

St. Vincent de Paul meeting will be Wednesday, August 14th, at 6:45 PM.

August 15th is a holy day of obligation – We celebrate the Assumption of our Blessed Mother into heaven. Our Mass schedule for the holy day will be Thursday, August 15th at Our Lady of Fatima—8:00 A.M., St. Mary’s—12 Noon and St. Joseph-St. Therese—7:00 P.M. Please plan to attend.

STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jesus urges us to be rich in what matters

to God. The psalmist warns us against

hardening our hearts. Are our hearts

open to what really matters? (Our Sunday

Visitor, ibid., page 30).

If you are alienated or upset, we welcome you lovingly.

If you are in need of forgiveness, Jesus forgives and loves you unconditionally, and so do we.

If you have been hurt by the church, we are truly sorry.

If you are angry, Jesus offers you peace.

If life is becomes burdensome, we are happy to support you.

We are happy you are here and want you to stay.

Come visit us each week and worship God with us!

IMPORTANT NOTICE *** With the new Mass schedule taking shape as

of June 30, Canon Law states that Masses may

be moved to a different church or time in the

formation of a collaborative. Any party making

an intention to a particular parish must be in-

formed of this and give their consent. In the

event they do not want the Mass to be moved,

the paid stipend will be refunded.

Please call the parish offices if you have sched-

uled a Mass after June 30 and do not want it

moved to a different Mass time or church.

All are welcomed to join us at Our

Lady of Fatima for Rosary and

Chaplet of Divine Mercy every

Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. There is so much

to pray for.

Bulletin Advertisements can be purchased for a

business, family, or a sponsor ad can be purchased

women’s shelter, etc. If you are interested or would

like more information, please call Tom, Liturgical
