Please remember to check on any elderly or handicapped relatives or neighbors during the winter months to ensure they remain safe, warm & healthy. A short visit or simply a call could make the difference in someone's life! With the approach of winter, and at the suggestion of the finance council, the church and rectory are seeking volunteers to help snow blow, shovel and sand the walk ways, stairs and sidewalks. If there are any younger parishioners with good strong backs and a willingness to help, please call the rectory at 568-2411, drop a note in the collection basket or speak to Father after Mass. We appreciate any help you can give! Thank you for those who helped on Thanksgiving morning. It was appreciated!

The 2016 Mass Book is now available to reserve dates for Masses. Please call or stop by the rectory during normal business hours to schedule Masses for 2016.

From The Pastor's Desk Born of the Virgin Mary What the Catholic faith believes about Mary is based on what it believes about Christ, and what it teaches about Mary illumines in turn its faith in Christ. Mary’s Predestination “God sent forth his Son,” but to prepare a body for him, he wanted the free cooperation of a creature. For this, from all eternity God chose for the mother of his Son a daughter of Israel, a young Jewish woman of Nazareth in Galilee, “a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary” (Lk 1:26-27). Throughout the Old Covenant the mission of many holy women prepared for that of Mary. At the very beginning there was Eve; despite her disobedience, she receives the promise of a posterity that will be victorious over the evil one, as well as the promise that she will be the mother of all the living. By virtue of this promise, Sarah conceives a son in spite of her old age. Against all human expectation God chooses those who were considered powerless and weak to show forth his faithfulness to his promises: Hannah, the mother of Samuel; Deborah; Ruth; Judith and Esther; and many other women. Mary stands out among the poor and humble of the Lord, who confidently hope for and receive salvation from him. After a long period of waiting the times are fulfilled in her, the exalted Daughter of Zion, and the new plan of salvation is established. The Immaculate Conception To become the mother of the Savior, Mary was enriched by God with gifts appropriate to such a role. The angel Gabriel at the moment of the annunciation salutes her as “full of grace.” In fact, in order for Mary to be able to give the free assent of her faith to the announcement of her vocation, it was necessary that she be wholly borne by God’s grace. Through the centuries the Church has become ever more aware that Mary, “full of grace” through God, was redeemed from the moment of her conception. That is what the dogma of the Immaculate Conception confesses, as Pope Pius IX proclaimed in 1854: “The most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of almighty God and by virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, Savior of the human race, preserved immune from all stain of original sin.” In Christ, Fr. Peter John Sheehan Prayer Ministry: Do you know someone that could use a special prayer or would you like someone to pray for you? Please call Rita at 568-7058 or Pauline at 568-5644 so they may begin your prayer line request.

Father Holland Catholic School News "Where our students shine in the light of Christ"

FATHER HOLLAND CATHOLIC SCHOOL WILL BE HOSTING A BIBLE STUDY GROUP. The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2015. It will be in the school library every Wednesday from 6-7 PM. There is no cost to join the group. Bibles (regular print) will be available for $8.00 or large print for $14.00. "For where there are two or three gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them." For any additional information, call Maria Rocheleau at 568-4589. TAGS FOR THE CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE 2014 are now on the tree. This year we would like parishioners to sign for the tags taken from the tree to ensure each tag is accounted for. We again will be providing toys for area children. If you have not done so already, please be sure to take a tag, buy and wrap your gift with the tag on the outside. After last weekend's Masses, there are still 65 tags left on the tree for less fortunate children of our community. The gifts must be returned to church by December 14th. Volunteers are needed for after the 11:00 am Mass on December 14th. Please call the rectory if you would like to help.

Thanksgiving basket update: thanks to the generosity of so many people, St. Patrick's Food Pantry was able to distribute Thanksgiving baskets to 127 families feeding a total of 457 people. Many thanks to the parishioners of St. Theresa's in Nasonville for 30 baskets complete with all the fixings for dinner with turkeys supplied by St. Patrick's & St. Joseph's. In total, St. Patrick's & St. Joseph's spent $1,865.73 for the remaining 97 baskets and turkeys. This cost is being split equally between both parishes. St. Joseph's portion of $932.87 was provided through your generous contributions to our Parish Outreach Program, known locally as Jacob's Gift donations. We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We are so thankful for your generosity, enabling us to help feed 127 needy families!

Religious Education News: Thank you to everyone that donated items during our Thanksgiving basket drive. All items were given to St. Patrick's Food Closet helping to complete the 127 baskets distributed. Please be sure to check your newsletter for items needed for Christmas food baskets. We kindly ask for these items to be returned by December 17th.
