Objective: This year, the students are challenged to write an original short story to match the theme 'Voyage of Discovery'. The story can involve any type of discovery- could be personal and/or physical- e.g. a new planet, species (on Earth or elsewhere), hidden treasure, family history, self-realization, scientific/medical breakthrough, lost civilisation, uncharted land or the ocean floor, untapped potential. The story should show imagination, creativity and contain the unexpected! What is in store? • Civica will publish the winning entries as an eBook of short stories, and also as a limited edition print copy. • Winning authors will be presented with a copy of the limited print edition and a Young Writer's Award certificate from Civica. Guidelines: As the published eBook will be available across all school libraries, the content must be suitable for all ages. Inappropriate content such as excessive violence, may result in the submission being disqualified. Each submission should be written by a single author only. RE : 2019 Tales of'S' eBook Competition

The above competition, organised by Civica, is open to all primary school students.

Evaluation and Criteria Submissions will be evaluated on the following criteria: • Understanding of the theme • Creativity • Quality of language and style • Structure of the storyline The judging panels will comprise of representatives from Civica Management, and the Ministry of Education.

Endorsement • The school will receive all entries. We will then shortlist only 20 entries and

submit to Civica on behalf of all the students. The school's decision is final. Do note that the school WILL NOT be editing the students' entries.

Full Rights I Permission Parents of students must:

• give Civica the full rights I permission of the submission content • sign the Copyright Agreement form. The original copy of this must be

submitted to Civica along with the student's work.

Submission deadline The deadline for submission will be 22 March 2019. Submission must be made as a word document, using Microsoft Word 2003 or later. Entries must be submitted to the undersigned at [email protected].

This material may be used for marketing purposes and iri the case of winning entries, the

publication of the material in the form of a book in electronic and hard and/or soft cover

versions.

We understand that Civica Pte Ltd will provide credit to the author/artist in any publication .

Civica may, for good consideration, at any time in the future produce the publication for

commercial sale.

We also grant permission to Civica Pte Ltd to undertake any editing or reformatting of the

materials as required in order to suit the intended purposes of the publications or marketing
