Share the Journey Prayer – Lord Jesus, today you call us to welcome the members of God's family who come to our land to escape oppression, poverty, persecution, violence, and war. Adapted from USCCB Prayer for Migrants and Refugees.

Scripture – He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing. And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt. (Deuteronomy 10:18-19)

Action – “Guided by experienced Doctors without Borders aid workers, you’ll travel through a 10,000-square-foot space designed to convey the challenges facing a person forced to flee. You’ll also learn about the humanitarian aid we provide along the way.” For additional information go to http://www.forcedfromhome.com/locations/pioneer-courthouse/

Children are uniquely vulnerable to environmental hazards and exposures to toxic chemicals in the environment. Their bodies, behaviors and size leave them more exposed than adults to such

health hazards.

Social Justice On Saturday, November 11, St. Juan Diego parishioners can again work on houses at a Habitat for Humanity work site. No experience is necessary and all tasks will be suitable to your comfort level. Get to know other St. Juan Diego parishioners and maybe even a few families who will be living in the homes you will be building. Twelve volunteers, 16 and over, are welcome on the work site in Beaverton. Contact Mike Grabner for more information: [email protected]

Sign-ups for this volunteer opportunity take place in the narthex.

World Mission Sunday TODAY IS WORLD MISSION SUNDAY – a day that leads us to the heart of our Christian faith – leads us to mission! Your generosity on World Mission Sunday supports the work of priests, religious and lay leaders in the Missions who share our faith with those most in need. This year we can even “chat” with our chief missionary,

Pope Francis, and learn more about his missions and missionaries. Learn more at ChatWithThePope.org. Chat – Pray – Give this World Mission Sunday.

Family Promise of Beaverton Did you know that one out of every four people who is homeless is a child? Or, that families with children make up nearly 40% of the people in this country who are homeless? Family homelessness is a national problem.

Locally, this past January, there were 9 children sleeping in cars with their families at the height of the snow storms on Beaverton streets. And the Beaverton School District saw a increase of 142 homeless students over the previous year, raising the total to 1720 identified students experiencing homelessness.

The week of October 22-29 is Family Promise Week. Our local Affiliate, Family Promise of Beaverton, is one of 206 programs across the country uniting the faith community to help children and their families who are homeless. Family Promise Week will raise awareness and celebrate the service of our congregation and others to serve our brothers and sisters in need. You can participate in Family Promise Week by signing up to volunteer, telling others about Family Promise of Beaverton, or visiting www.FamilyPromiseOfBeaverton.org to learn more. Please be watching for information on an opportunity to enjoy a dinner at Red Robin on Nov. 1 and help Family Promise of Beaverton at the same time.

For more information or to find out how you can get involved please contact your St. Juan Diego representatives: Lois O’[email protected] Connie Price [email protected] or Barb Upson [email protected]
