Thank you for your continued support of St. Justin Martyr Parish!

Clergy Reflection continued Fear seeps in when our trust in God weakens. The only time we should get scared is when something sur-prises God. If something takes God by surprise, we are doomed. Since God knows all things, we are reassured. Fear is knocking on the door, but we don’t have to let it in. Deacon Corney Llorens

Clergy Reflection

Jesus Takes Our Fears Seriously Good people aren’t excused from violence. We aren’t protected. But neither are we overwhelmed or frightened by it. Jesus says, “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.” Jesus had just told the disciples to expect cursing, terrorizing, death, hatred, and harassment. But fear not! The Psalmist in 118 reminds us, “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” The devil did his best against Jesus. Yet the prince of darkness and death could not destroy the Lord of light and life. Jesus prayed that we are spared such evil. What Jesus did with his fear shows us what to do with ours. He prayed! He even requested the prayer support of friends. Jesus’ prayer was brief. It was straightforward and trusting. Still, Christ-followers contract disease, bury children, and battle addictions. And, as a result, we face fears. It’s not the absence of storms that sets us apart. It’s whom we discover in the storm— an unworried Christ. Fear creates a form of forgetfulness. It makes us forget what Jesus has done and how good God is. Jesus takes our fears seriously. He pleads with us, “Do not be afraid.” Life is hard. And Jesus tells us that things will get worse. We can expect tragedy. Christians will suffer the most. In times like these, it is easy to let fear grip our hearts. Fear of sickness. Fear of the unknown. But when fear and anxiety try to infect our every thought, we can remember this one important truth— God is with us. He is for us. He loves us. And he invites us to not give up. We are never without hope because we are never with-out prayer. Resist the urge to panic. The next time you sense despair, answer with prayer. (See next Column)

Vocation Brief

Family life can build values integral to a strong voca-tion—whether to priesthood, religious life or marriage. Teaching your children to value commitment, service and prayer will help them make strong vocation deci-sions as adults and live out those vocations with success and fulfillment.

Treasures of St. Justin Martyr Parish

Rosary Garden

Between the school and the offices, there is a quaint rec-tangular garden with a shrine to Our Lady of Fatima at one end, a chair shaped like angel wings on one side, a treasure chest filled with rosaries opposite the chair, and a wide opening on the fourth side of the stone-paved garden. The whole area is surrounded by trees and flowering plants and appeals especially to those who are waiting for their children after school or after parish activities. Many have noted that the statue of Mary seems to move inside its enclosed shrine, but its movement is attributed to the vibrations caused by the wind blowing against the enclosure.

St. Justin Martyr Catholic Preschool News

The St. Justin Martyr Preschool is closed until further notice. ___________________________________

A Prayer of Solidarity

For all who have contracted coronavirus, We pray for care and healing. For those who are particularly vulnerable, We pray for safety and protection. For all who experience fear or anxiety, We pray for peace of mind and spirit. For affected families who are facing difficult decisions between food on the table or public safety, We pray for policies that recognize their plight. For those who do not have adequate health insurance, We pray that no family will face financial burdens alone. For those who are afraid to access care due to immigration status, We pray for recognition of the God-given dignity of all. For our brothers and sisters around the world, We pray for shared solidarity. For public officials and decision makers, We pray for wisdom and guidance. Father, during this time may your Church be a sign of hope, comfort and love to all. Grant peace. Grant comfort. Grant healing. Be with us, Lord.

Amen

Our Ignite Campaign continues. Total pledged amount is 61% of our goal. Paid amount is 28% of the goal. Pledge cards are available at the Ignite table in the Church. Please pledge what you are able. _____________________________________________
