Fr. Keith’s KornerFr. Keith’s KornerFr. Keith’s KornerFr. Keith’s Korner A theologian once called the Holy Spirit the

“shy” member of the Trinity. We believe the Holy Spirit dwells quietly within us—and as we gradually open our hearts to the influence of that Spirit, we are transformed from within. When the frightened apostles recognized the presence of God’s Holy Spirit long ago, the faith community of the Church was born… and we are now part of that amazing story twenty centuries later. Happy Pentecost—and Happy Birthday, Church! Our worship is often effective because of the efforts of parishioners who offer their time and talent in service to their faith community. This weekend we thank our musicians, and those who set up, and those who decorate our worship space. We are grateful to the Knights of Columbus for preparing our delicious Pentecost morning breakfast. And thanks to everyone who wore something red to Mass, and to all those who prayerfully offered their Pentecost Spirit Renewal Scrolls at the altar. The annual Spring Fair for St. John Regional Catholic School will take place behind the school building next weekend. On Saturday night the small parking lot will be reserved during the 5:00 PM Mass for those attending Mass with mobility problem. On Sunday, the Fair starts after the 11:00 AM Mass, so there should be no problem with parking. Stop by the Spring Fair to support our regional Catholic School.

On Memorial Day, we remember those who have given their lives in service to their country—they have made the ultimate sacrifice. We also remember those who grieve their loss. Let us pray that one day the state of the world will not necessitate this kind of sacrifice.

Our next Blood Drive is scheduled for Saturday 16 June. The gift of our blood to keep others alive is well worth the time it takes to donate. Please sign up for an appointment in the entrance hallway after Mass.

As We Celebrate Pentecost the Holy Spirit wants to make us witnesses of God’s presence, bringing new life to others, especially those who do not know the love of God. Through your gifts this month, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to bring God’s love to the poor by assisting about 200 families and individuals with their medical, rent, utility, and other bills. Thank you! Financial donations to the poor box and volunteers are always needed. Please call 301-662-4676 to volunteer.

Altar Server Training will take place on Saturday 9 June from 2:00 – 4:00 PM in McElroy Hall. This is a unique opportunity for the youth of our parish to participate in ministry as an altar server. You will have the best seats in McElroy Hall, where you can see and hear all that is going on, and hopefully be drawn closer to Jesus through your actions. To be eligible to train to be an altar server, you must have received the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist and completed the fourth grade. Registration is required. For more information, or to register, please call Lisa Wrzesinski (301-624-1084) or Peg O’Hara (301-663-5473). “Lord, your summons echoes true when you buy call my name. Let me turn and follow you and never be the same.”

Youth & Young Adult Ministry High School Youth Group will meet on 30 May Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.

ShadowLand Laser Adventure Night: Have a great family night out and help support the teens participating in Encounter at the same time. Join us at ShadowLand in the Francis Scott Key Mall from 6:00 to 10:00 PM on Wednesday 30 May. Just mention Saint Katharine Drexel and a portion of all ticket sales will help offset the cost of Encounter. The price is $7.75 per game. Player waivers are required for all and those under 18 must be signed by a parent or guardian. The forms are available on the parish website or the bulletin board. Save some time and fill them out before you arrive.

Middle School Youth Ministry Service at the soup kitchen will take place on Friday 1 June from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Parents are not required to attend but are encouraged to serve with their child. A permission form is required. The forms are available on the parish

web site. For more information, please contact Leah Huber in the Parish Office.

Faith Formation Registration

is currently underway for all of our fall faith formation programs. Registration forms are being distributed in various venues, and are available on the web site, at the Information Center, and in the Parish Office. Early family registration helps us so that we can order books and recruit sufficient catechists. Please be aware that the household fee increases when you register after 17 June. Thanks for your cooperation in helping us organize for the next academic year!
