Lord, Hear our Prayer.

An ancient title for this Sunday is Dominica in Albis, or “Sunday in White.” During the Easter Vigil, the newly baptized are invested with a white garment, a sign that they have put on Christ. At one time, the garments were worn for a full week of celebration and reflection, and on this Sunday the newly baptized would appear in their robes again in their new place among the faithful for Eucharist. In later centuries, the energy of new life at Easter was largely

forgotten, and this Sunday was renamed “Quasimodo Sunday,” or “Low Sunday.” In re-cent years, with the recovery of the insight that Easter is the privileged time for celebrating and renewing baptism, there is nothing “Low” about this Sunday. At a week’s distance, the beauty and grace of our Easter celebration is sustained by joyful alleluias, the blessing and sprinkling of holy water, and the comfort of the Lord’s pres-ence to us. He is risen, and he summons us together, opening up the scriptures for us, breaking the bread, filling us with new life. —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

School News

Spring and its promise of new life is upon us. This time of year is filled with many opportunities to embrace the gifts that are availa-ble to us through God’s grace. Recently, our students in 5th-8th grades reverently reenacted the Passion of Our Lord. For the last twenty-two years, the students have told this most important event of our faith with their heartfelt words, actions and songs. Led by International Jazz Guitarist, Mr. Nick Colionne, these students truly epitomize Jesus’ journey of sacrifice and great love. We would like to thank Nick and our teachers for their time and com-mitment to this beautiful reenactment.

Our buddy program continues to be one of the many attributes that make our school special. On Holy Thursday, our student s in kinder-garten colored Easter eggs with their 8th grade buddies. In 4th grade, we are watching hatchlings as they grow to become baby chicks. The due date is April 29th. We will be sure to keep you updated and share pictures of our new additions! Innovation and creativity continue to be a focus in our STEM Mak-erspace. The students were challenged to create pet homes on National Pet Day to accommodate their furry friends. The ingenuity of children when completing these tasks never ceases to amaze me. On Monday, the 29th, the flower orders will be available for pickup. Also, mark your calendars for our next Bingo on May 11th which will be hosted by our 6th grade families. It will be sure to be a fun-filled family event! We invite you to continue to help us spread the word about our wonderful school! I am available for tours to share all that we have to offer. I hope each of you has a wonderful week ahead!!

Ambo - the place from which the readings and psalms are proclaimed at Mass

Today we celebrate the 8th day of Easter, hopefully it has been a joyful week as we pulled back the veil in our lives in order to experience the powerful light that comes from the Risen Christ. In addition to joy, this Feast of Divine Mercy reminds us that we are also to experience God’s peace. Jesus repeats in the Gospel today, “Peace be with you.” These are words that must take root in our lives. God has come to give us peace! I recall in my discernment process for the priesthood a few individuals that I greatly entrusted my formation would frequently remind me that God wants me to experience tremendous inner peace. All the restless questions that rattled around in my mind and heart on whether I was smart enough, prayerful enough, social enough, courageous enough, bold enough, strong enough, holy enough, etc...They were all calmed by the fact that God didn’t want me to be a worrier, rather, a person who experiences inner peace. With all our questions, worries, fears, doubts, Jesus says to us, “peace be with you.”

“Why do I go to Mass?” was the question asked at the first ses-sion of the 6-week DVD program by Bishop Robert Barron. I grew up going to Mass every day for eight years of Catholic grade school. Mass was in Latin then. It was just a part of the cur-riculum. In fifth grade, we studied the parts of the Mass, the names of all the vestment and sacred vessels, and what the priest did while his back was toward us. We also learned what the Transfiguration means. The nuns told stories of priests who in some way actually saw the change from bread and wine to the Body and Blood. I don’t know if I really believed that or not, but I knew the consecration was the highpoint and you better be alert for it. The DVD sessions stressed that the Mass is full of mysteries. I think at some point in my life I questioned what I believed. I never stopped going to Mass. I knew from a very young age that I re-ceived Jesus into my heart with every communion. Each commun-ion changed me in some small way. I was jealous that I was not allowed to be an altar server and be “close to the action.” When the priest turned around and the words were now in English, I felt more a “part of” rather than just an ob-server. This 6-week DVD session made me go back and review those rituals and their real meanings. I thought I knew everything I need-ed to know, but I could go on and on about what I learned from these six lessons. How wonderful it is to enjoy and participate in the Mass! Even if you “know everything”, when these sessions are offered again, please take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about the Sacrifice of the Mass and why you really attend. You will not only gain information, but also new feelings and new perspec-tives on the mysteries that you have never thought of before.
