Series 4, The Divine Conductor – His Instruments
Listening to the beautiful orchestral music of Christmas started me thinking about Jesus as the Divine Conductor. By way of baptism, we join his orchestra, each bringing the instruments that the Holy Spirit provides us. The Father is the Di-vine Composer and Jesus works intimately with
the Author of Life to turn his Father’s work into a masterpiece.
Every person’s role is distinct and uniquely essential, just as the vast selection of brass, woodwind, string, and percussion instruments make their own contributions. Each musicianserves its roll in giving the composition the rich, harmonious beauty the Father intends.
Not only are the individual musicians called to play their own parts, but based on their interest and work ethic, they are asked to perform different roles from their counterparts. Some are assigned solos; within each instrument group performers
own level of complexity and responsibility.
As the musicians, we have the free will to play any notes that we choose. Our instruments provide full scales and we can follow our conductor’s lead or ramble off our own tunes, negatively impacting the experience for everyone. We can take care of our instruments, keeping them in tune, cleaning them, and repairing any worn or broken parts, or we can let them become defective, making it impossible to play at the standard expected of us.
Because our conductor is merciful, when we falter along the way, Jesus and the other musicians help carry our parts until we get back in tune. Knowing that Jesus has a clear vision
Father’s perfect symphony, let us remember that the way to Jesus is by allowing him to nurture and tutor us to our
pride and satisfaction.
Scripture: Proverbs 3:1-6 What God might be saying to you.
Call to Action: Do you have relationships or a lifestyle that is out of tune or broken? Pray for Jesus to mentor and guide you into full harmony with Him and his Church.

January 10, 2021
Dear Friends,
I guess 2020 isn’t going away easily. Supposedly we have vaccines, but the virus is still getting worse for a while to come.
We’re doing everything possible to keep things safe for you and your family – cleaning and sanitizing and spraying with the best state-of-the-art disinfectants. We’re keeping spaces and masks on too and we just ask everyone to be sensible while we work through this even though we’ve all had enough.
No doubt in it all, our love for the Eucharist has grown – our Adoration Chapel keeps going 24/7 with people praying day and night for so many intentions. Is it possible that our around-the-clock prayerbefore Jesus has been keeping the death rate in our area at relatively low levels? Only 4 people havedied in Putnam County since last May…
bring you peace of soul and a connection to Jesus like nothing else.
If you haven’t yet had a chance to stop in to see our Shroud of Turin exhibit, it will be here just through Tuesday. Then it moves on to Our Lady of Loreto in Cold Spring and then on to Sacred Heart in Monroe. Check out our wide array of Faith Formation offerings this semester, both in person and by Zoom. You can keep growing in your faith even in these stressful times.
I’m grateful for all the prayers and best wishes I received for my 30th Anniver-sary last Sunday and all who dropped in for the reception. I love each one of you and will do my best to continue to serve you and bring Jesus to you.
Thank you also for your support of the Brewster Cares homeless shelter – every night our churches are hosting our homeless brothers and sisters as a sign of the love of Jesus. If you wish to give or volunteer, check the ad in this bulletin to sign up.
And a word of thanks to everyone who gave on our Christmas Appeal this year – your generosity has been awesome in hard times for us all. Thank you!
God bless,
Fr. Richard Gill

30 years of priesthood TINA GRANT
On Sunday, we cele-brated the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. We also celebrated at the 11 am Mass, the 30th Anniversary of the Ordination of Fr. Richard Gill to the Priesthood, followed by a reception in the gym.
The Gospel focused on the Magi, representatives of all
King of Kings, who would allow all a chance at salvation. In Fr. Rich’s homily, he spoke of the unwillingness of Jerusalem and King Herod to change to receive salvation.
When Fr. Rich spoke, I thought of last March – the pandemic, the closing of businesses, schools, churches, and the loss of jobs and loved ones. Masks, six feet distancing, working re-motely from home, live stream Masses, and receiving Eucha-rist spiritually became routine.
As Mass ended and Fr. Rich bowed before the Lord, I imag-ined his ordination before Saint Pope John Paul II thirty years ago and the journey that led him to St. Lawrence and Sacred Heart, and all the lives he changed along the way. I thought of the renovation of the Church and the Parish Center, the ministries, all the opportunities open to us and how he and his staff led us spiritually through the pandemic. Our church doors remained wide open and when people were too uncomfortable to come to church, Fr. Rich went to them carrying the mon-strance on the back of a pick-up truck being driven by Deacon Mark. The Good News of Jesus Christ was delivered despite the obstacles. Changes were made so we could continue to receive Jesus Christ.
In Fr. Rich’s letter to the parishioners, he shared his hope that he would hear the Lord say “well done, good and faithful servant”. Words we all want to hear. I believe the Lord will look at the gifts given to Fr. Rich and how he shared his gifts with those he served and those he brought closer to Jesus. I be-lieve Fr. Rich will hear those words he hopes for. The parish-ioners of St. Lawrence and Sacred Heart are very blessed to have the faith and the pastoral leadership of Fr. Rich.
Congratulations Fr. Rich on your 30th Anniversary! We are very grateful to you for making St. Lawrence and Sacred Heart part of your journey and for giving us the love of Jesus Christ.
