I wanted to reach out and say hello to all of you as I join St. Luke’s Hospital as the new president and chief executive officer. I am thrilled to be here! I would like to thank everyone I have met so far for their warm welcome– and to those I have not yet had the pleasure to meet, I hope to soon. I will be out and about in the hospital and at our offsite facilities often to familiarize myself with all of the wonderful services we offer to our community through our numerous locations. I look forward to getting to know each of you and the valuable role you play in our organization. As you may know, I have more than 30-year background in nursing and healthcare leadership, serving most recently as CEO of a hospital in Alexandria, Virginia. My past experience in operations and senior executive leadership will help guide our future as a top-level healthcare organization in the St. Louis metro area and nation. Together with the board of directors, I am excited to build upon the strong focus on patient care excellence and caring culture already ingrained in the foundation here at the hospital through the work of those before me. As we look to the future, I hope to engage in new opportunities with all employees, physicians and volunteers, allowing us to continue to provide high-quality, compassionate care to all who come through our doors. My husband and I moved to Missouri in December and are eagerly exploring all the great things this area has to offer. In March 2013, I was installed as chairman of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) for a three-year term. This international professional society is comprised of more than 40,000 healthcare executives who lead hospitals, healthcare systems and other healthcare organizations. I am humbled to get to represent St. Luke’s Hospital as I complete my term as chairman of ACHE and as I get involved in the community here in Chesterfield and in the broader St. Louis metro area during the months to come. Throughout my time preparing to begin my journey with you, I heard often about the ‘family’ that I would be joining. I now count it as an honor and privilege to be a member, and I can’t wait to see all the wonderful things we will accomplish together. Sincerely, Christine M. St. Luke’s Hospital Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center The Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center at St. Luke’s offers a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach to diagnosing and treating patients through the state and region with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). Located in the Mr. and Mrs. Theodore P. Desloge, Jr. Outpatient Center, patients and families receive comprehensive care from medical experts spanning numerous disciplines, including Dr. Keith Mankowitz, MD, FACC, Yogesh Patel, MD, and Jeremy Leidenfrost, MD. The goal of the Center is to provide personalized care to patients with known or suspected HCM as well as their families.

Although HCM is rare, it is potentially deadly. HCM is caused by mutations of the heart muscle genes which cause the walls within the heart to grow larger than normal, restricting blood flow. Many people with HCM have no symptoms. However, symptoms that may be present include: Chest pain Dizziness Fainting Fatigue Heart murmurs & arrhythmias Irregular heart rhythms Palpitations Shortness of breath

HCM can be genetic, so anyone whose relative has been diagnosed or treated for HCM should seek medical advice and get screened. However, in other instances, there is no genetic relationship. Because of this, all adults who are physically active should be screened. To schedule an appointment at the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center of Excellence or for more information, please call 314-43-HEART (43278).
