Anti-Racism In line with our Mission Statement, racism is inconsistent with the ethos of St Madeleine’s School. In the school situation, respect, tolerance and acceptance are essential qualities that are fostered in our students. The successful integration into society of people from diverse backgrounds and beliefs can be facilitated if schools engage in suitable educational and awareness raising activities. It is the duty of all members of the school community to ensure that all forms of racism are non- existent at St Madeleine’s School. Through our Religious Education Program we educate our students to be loving and accepting people, using Jesus as our role model.

Christmas Concert

Next Wednesday evening 2nd December we have our Christmas concert in the hall at 6.45pm. We anticipate our concert will conclude at 8pm. The concert is an important event in the school calendar and I expect all children to participate. If any family is unable to attend, a letter of explanation needs to be addressed to Mrs Black. Everyone participates in the practice until I receive this letter. Thank you for your support Jeanette Black

Early Morning Drop Off

Parents please be aware that up till 8.30am, the

morning drop off for Kinder, Year 1 and Year 2

children is at the NETBALL COURT. After 8.30am a

teacher is on duty at the Amphitheatre and then

children can be dropped off safely near the canteen. We

have noticed many children being dropped off at the

canteen drop off too early and they are not in a

supervised location in the school. Please adhere to this

safety consideration.

First Sunday of Advent - Year C Sunday 29

th November

The new Liturgical Year commences with the first Sunday of Advent. In this new liturgical year, the Church

not only wishes to indicate the beginning of a period, but the beginning of a renewed commitment to the

faith by all those who follow Christ. This time of prayer and penance endeavours to give us a renewed desire

to truly welcome the message of the One who was incarnated for us. In fact, the entire Liturgy of the Advent

Season will urge us to an awakening in our Christian life and will put us in a vigilant disposition to wait for

Our Lord Jesus who is coming.

A reading from first letter of St Paul to the Thessalonians

1 Thessalonians 3:12 – 4:2

When Christ comes may he strengthen your hearts in holiness.

May the Lord be generous in increasing your love and make you

love one another and the whole human race as much as we love

you. And may he so confirm your hearts in holiness that you may

be blameless in the sight of our God and Father when our Lord

Jesus Christ comes with all his saints.

Finally, brothers, we urge you and appeal to you in the Lord Jesus

to make more and more progress in the kind of life that you are

meant to live: the life that God wants, as you learnt from us, and as

you are already living it. You have not forgotten the instructions

we gave you on the authority of the Lord Jesus.

Father in heaven, our hearts desire the warmth of your love and our minds are searching for the light of your Word. Increase our longing for Christ our Saviour and give us the strength to grow in love, that the dawn of his coming may find us rejoicing in his presence and welcoming the light of his truth. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. Amen

May this first Eucharist of the Church's year be a taste for us of the Kingdom of God that is both present

amongst us and still to come. May the Advent season sustain us in our waiting and give us courage in our

living.

St Madeleine’s Primary: Family Funded Information Apple provides a number of ways to help families buy the devices you want your students to use in the classroom. These include your local Apple Store and a custom online store which has been built specifically for our school. Product Purchase and Pricing To purchase the Apple solution we’ve selected for your student’s use in the classroom visit your local Apple Store in Castle Towers, or call 133-622 to purchase through our contact centre, to get advice or discuss the products that you might be considering. Apple offers special iPad and Mac pricing for students attending our school. This special pricing is available for purchases made at Apple Stores or via the Apple contact centre. If you are purchasing in-store or through the contact centre, just let the Specialist know our school’s name and that it is part of the Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta. Finance options are also available for purchases if you are purchasing at an Apple Store. Learning and support The Apple Store is a great place to learn about, try and buy Apple products for education. Apple Specialists are on hand to help you and your student get to know your new Apple device, and with Personal Setup they can help get new devices up and running before you leave the store. You and your students can join one of the daily in-store workshops to learn a new skill, and your student can get learning and creating at one of the Apple Camp or Field Trip events. Visit www.apple.com/au/retail/castletowers to go directly to the Castle Towers Apple Store and view the schedule or www.apple.com/au/retail to find your closest store if you are outside of this area. Apple can also provide support with everything related to your new Apple purchase — from using iPad to troubleshooting iTunes. You can get support by phone, email or online chat or set up a repair or Genius Bar reservation at getsupport.apple.com.

Mathemacs Assessment Interviews 2016

At the beginning of 2016 we will be interviewing each student at St Madeleine’s, including our new

Kindergarten students.

This 1:1 interview takes about 40 minutes and gives explicit informa&on about each student’s

understanding of number concepts ~ Coun&ng, Place Value, Addi&on and Subtrac&on, Mul&plica&on and

Division.

The data and informa&on gathered from this interview iden&fies strengths and gaps in understanding and is

extremely useful in helping us to tailor the content of our Maths program to meet the needs of each

student.

We will be conduc ng these interviews on Wednesday 27th , Thursday 28th and Friday 29th

January 2016.

In Week 11, families will receive a log in code via email to use with the school interview online booking

tool to organise an appointment me.

The log in code will be sent first to families with 3 and 4 children, then families with 2 children and then

families with 1 child. The advantage of using the online tool is that you can determine the day and &me that

suits you and you can arrange for all your children to be interviewed by the different teachers in the one

&meslot. Parents as we are using an online tool appointments cannot be made directly with the class

teacher.

Thank you for your ongoing support

CHRISTMAS HAMPERS THANK YOU

To our incredibly generous and thoughtful community, we wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for your act of charity towards your neighbour. The abundance of food collected on Wednesday was simply overwhelming - an act of charity extended in God’s love for humanity. We shared with our students the concept of charity. It began with: • Thinking of the other - the less fortunate amongst us • Collecting boxes to decorate for the other • Bringing food items to feed the other • Filling the hamper boxes to share with the other • Wrapping the hamper boxes to give to the other • Delivering joy and happiness to the other • Thinking of the other - the less fortunate during the Christmas season The two terms love and charity are frequently used interchangeably and with good reason, since the virtue of charity is in fact a kind of love. What sort of love is charity? Charity is the Love of God, in which we are able to participate. Every virtue means a share in God's activity. Faith, for instance, is a share in God's act of knowing, where the believer knows what God knows. Hope is a share in God's desire. The person with the virtue of Hope wants the same thing God wants, that is, to make it to union with God in Heaven. Charity too is a mode of participating in God's action, the highest mode. With Charity we share in God's act of love; we are able to love the way God loves. The virtue of Charity is the summit of the Christian life and the beginning of everlasting happiness. Please know in good faith that all hampers were delivered Thursday afternoon. Sincere thanks and gratitude to staff that helped transport and deliver all hampers. Kathy Fisher
