1. Let's talk: ♦ How have we listened to one another this week? Do we sometimes hear, but don’t even know what others are saying? Are we sincerely interested in their desires, joys, and concerns? 2. Read together the story on the children's page and the Bible readings for today. 3. Message for our family this week:
♦ The word of God, like the rain the makes the earth fruitful, has the power to change our lives.
♦ Those who allow themselves to be led by the Spirit of Jesus Christ—and listen to what Jesus says—are not enslaved by ma-terial things.
♦ There are many ways to listen to God, who speaks to us every day. Good soil is that which produces fruits—or the ones who, listening to God, serve and treat others more lovingly. What kind of soil are we?
4. What is going on in our lives? ♦ What distracts us and takes away from what we value as important?
How do TV commercials, or values presented on television affect us?
♦ What good works have we performed this week? What acts of ser-vice have we performed as a family?
5. What our faith teaches us: The Catechism of the Catholic Church (1349) reminds us that at Sunday Mass a special relevance is given to the Word of God. In the homily, we are invited to accept the Word and put it into practice in our lives, like good soil.

5. Lo que nos enseña nuestra fe: El Catecismo de la Iglesia Catolica(1349), nos recuerda que la Misa de los domingos tiene un momento especial para escuchar la palabra de Dios. En la Homilía se nos invita a aceptar esa palabra y a ponerla en practica en nuestras vidas, como buena tierra.

LAS PALABRAS DE DIOS Cada día somos bombardeados por miles de palabras. Desde el momento en que suena el despertador en la mañana, hasta el último momento del día cuando apagamos el televisor o alguien nos dice “buenas noches’, tenemos la vida llena de pa-labras. Algunas palabras nos traen noticias que nos deprimen. Algunas palabras nos levantan el espíritu. Muchas de las pala-bras que escuchamos tratan de hacernos comprar algo. Algu-nas palabras son hirientes. Hoy la Iglesia nos hace prestar aten-ción a la Palabras de Dios. ¿Son las Palabras de Dios igual que las demás –parte de una corriente sin fin de palabras que fluyen por nuestro oídos todos los días? El reto hoy es permitir que las Palabras de Dios nos inspiren renovando nuestra perspectiva y actitudes para que estén en mayor consonancia con el corazón y la mente de Cristo Jesús.
GOD’S WORDS Each day we are bombarded with thousands of words. From the moment our clock radios click on in the morn-ing, until the last moment of the day when the television is turned off or someone bids us “good-night,” our life is filled with words. Some words that we hear bring news that leaves us feeling low. Some words lift our spirits. Many of the words we hear are trying to get us to buy something. Some words are hurtful. Today the Church focuses our attention on hearing the word of God. Are God’s words just more of the same—part of the endless stream of words that flow into our ears each day? The challenge today is to allow God’s word to inspire us in new ways so that our out-look and attitudes align themselves more closely with the heart and mind of Christ Jesus.

Did You Know? Watch out for friend fatigue
After months of staying home, parents who are opting to en-gage in safe playdates should be aware of “friend fatigue.” Es-pecially in the summer months, children have time for longer playdates, and often choose to spend time with their best friends whenever they can. But these playdates can be too much of a good thing. Pay attention to cues from your child that he or she needs a break — excessive fighting, bad behaviors, short tempers. Use informed judgement to determine when it’s best for children to take a play break for a few days or so.
¿Sabia Usted? Esté atento a la fatiga de los amigos
Después de meses de permanecer en casa, los padres de fami-lia que están optando por dejar a sus hijos participar en “citas de juego” seguros, deben estar conscientes de la “fatiga de amigo”. Especialmente durante los meses de verano, los niños tienen mucho tiempo para pasarlo con sus amigos y cuando pueden, por lo regular deciden hacerlo. Pero estos compañeros de juego no siempre son la mejor influencia. Ponga atención a las señales de sus hijos por si necesita un tiempo de alejamien-to de sus amigos, ya sea porque han tenido muchas peleas, malos comportamientos, o poca paciencia con sus amistades. Infórmese, y use su buen juicio para determinar cuándo es el mejor momento para que sus hijos se alejen de sus amigos de juego por algunos días.

Hello Church! I am excited to be joining this community in early Autumn and I look forward to meeting all of you. I grew up in Azusa attending St. Frances of Rome Church and School. I am a graduate of Bishop Amat High School in La Puente and received degrees from Citrus Community College and Cal Poly Pomona. Upon ordination in 2003, I went on to serve vari-ous parishes:
Associate – St. Joseph Church, Hawthorne & St. Mary Church, Palmdale.
Pastor – St. Albert the Great Church in West Rancho Dominguez (Compton)
During that time I served on the Archdiocesan Liturgical Committee. In 2013 I joined the Office of Religious Education at the ACC as Coordinator of Adult Faith Formation. In 2015, Archbishop Gomez appointed me Director of that office and I was later named Senior Director of Religious Education and Evangelization. I was then asked by Archbishop Gomez to come to St. John Chrysostom to serve as Administrator. As I was discerning the next step in my ministry, I was called once again to come serve St. Marcellinus Church as its pastor. I will begin this new phase of ministry on 1 September 2020. I have had the privilege to work with Dr. Humberto for different Archdiocesan events and projects and humbled to be asked to continue the great work he has begun at St. Marcellinus. Please pray for me and all those servants and communities that are experiencing transitions during this very challenging time. I am confident that God’s Providence, which has never failed us, will bring us through this and guide our steps toward the Kingdom. ¡Adelante!
