Dear Families and Friends of St. Margaret Mary,
A saint once said that humility is united to holiness by a sense of humor. With this in mind, here are a few jokes to lighten your day. A Jesuit was on a drive and crashed into an-other car, only to discover that the other driv-er was a Franciscan. “It was my fault,” each insisted—as is only right and proper with two religious men. Concerned, the Jesuit said, “You look badly shaken up, Father. You could probably use a good stiff drink right now to calm down.” He produced a flask and the Franciscan drank from it and said, “Thank you, Father; I feel much better now. But you’re probably shaken up too. Why don’t you have a drink as well?” “I will,” the Jesuit replied, “but I think I’ll wait until after the police have come.” In tears, Mary Clancy went up to Father O’Grady after the nine o’clock Mass. He asks, “So what’s bothering you, Mary, my dear?” She replies, “Oh, Father, I’ve got terri-ble news. My husband passed away last night.” The priest says, “Oh, Mary, that’s terri-ble. Tell me, did he have any last requests?” She says, “That he did, Father. He said, ‘Please, Mary, put down that gun.'” During a fire at a convent, a group of nuns are trapped on the third floor. Thinking quick-ly, they took off their habits, tied them to-gether and used them as a rope to climb down from the window. After safely reaching the ground, a reporter asks, “Weren’t you worried that the habits would have ripped as you were climbing down? They look old and worn.” “Of course not!” said one of the nuns. “Don’t you know how hard it is to break an old habit?” One Sunday morning, a priest saw a little boy staring intently at the large plaque on the
church wall. The plaque was covered with names, and flags hung on either side of it. “Father,” asked the boy, “what’s this?” The priest replied, “It’s a memorial to all the men and women who died in the service.” They stood together in silence for a moment. Final-ly, the boy asked with genuine concern: “Was it at the eight or the ten-thirty Mass?” A deacon, a priest and a bishop, were about to be executed for preaching the Gospel in a foreign land. They bring out the deacon first and the guard shouts, “Ready … aim …” and suddenly the deacon yells, “EARTHQUAKE!” When everyone looks around, the deacon runs off. Next they bring out the priest. The guard shouts, “Ready … aim …” and suddenly the priest yells, “TORNADO!” When everyone ducks down, the priest runs off. By then, of course, the bishop had it figured out. They bring him out, and when the guard shouts, “Ready….aim….” Suddenly, the bishop yells, “FIRE!” A Sunday school teacher asked her little chil-dren, as they were on the way into the church service, “And why is it necessary, chil-dren, to be quiet in church?” One little girl replied, “Because people are sleeping.” After a church service on a Sunday morning, a young boy suddenly announced to his mother, “Mom, I’ve decided to become a priest when I grow up.” “That’s OK with us,” she said, “but what made you decide that?” “Well,” said the little boy, “I have to go to church on Sunday anyway, and I figure it will be more fun to stand up and yell than to sit down and listen.”

THIS WEEK IN SMM HISTORY June 7, 2018 - Monsignor Marc Trudeau is ordained an Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Los An-geles. This is the first me in the history of the Archdiocese that two former pastors from the same parish are ordained bishops. June 13,1954 - The parish held a party for Father Hegarty on his 25th anniversary as a priest. June 14, 1959 - Father Hegarty and the Salesian Sis-ters held a groundbreaking for the new convent to be built between the church and the school. Cost of construc on was $67,926. June 17, 1987 - 100 parishioners began a pilgrimage to France, Switzerland and Italy as part of the parish’s 50th anniversary.

Many teens will get their first job while still in high school. Building a work ethic is a great and neces-sary skill, but teens need to be informed to about how best to handle possible workplace violence. Coworkers are not always thoroughly screened, and your teen could face another employee’s rage or anger that could possible put them in danger. Estimadas Familias y Amigos de Santa Margarita María
Un santo dijo una vez que la humildad está uni-da a la santidad por un sentido del humor. Con esto en mente, aquí hay algunas bromas para ale-grar su día.
Un jesuita estaba manejando y se estrelló contra otro automóvil, y descubrió que el otro conductor era un franciscano. "Fue mi culpa", Cada uno in-sistía, como es justo y apropiado con dos hom-bres religiosos. Preocupado, el jesuita dijo: "Se ve muy conmocionado, padre. Probablemente pue-da usar un buen trago fuerte ahora mismo para calmarse. El sacó una petaca y el franciscano be-bió de ella y dijo: "Gracias, padre; me siento mu-cho mejor ahora” “Lo haré”, contestó el jesuita, "pero creo que esperaré hasta que haya llegado la policía”.
Llorando, Mary Clancy se acercó al padre O'Grady después de la misa de las nueve. El pa-dre le pregunta: "Entonces, ¿qué te preocupa, mi querida Mary,?" Ella responde: “padre, tengo noticias terribles. Mi esposo falleció anoche”. El sacerdote dice: “Mary, eso es terrible". Dime, ¿tenía alguna última solicitud? “Ella dice: "Si lo hizo, padre. Un domingo por la mañana, un sacerdote vio a un niño pequeño mirando fijamente la gran placa en la pared de la iglesia. La placa estaba cubierta de nombres y banderas colgadas a cada lado. "Padre", le preguntó el niño, "¿qué es esto?" El
sacerdote respondió: "Es un monumento conme-morativo para todos los hombres y mujeres que murieron en el servicio". Permanecieron juntos en silencio por un momento. Finalmente, el niño preguntó con genuina preocupación: "¿Fue en la Misa de las ocho o la de las diez y media?"
Un diácono, un sacerdote y un obispo estaban a punto de ser ejecutados por predicar el Evangelio en un país extranjero. traen primero al diácono y el guardia grita: "Listos... apunten..." y de repen-te el diácono grita: "¡TERREMOTO!" Cuando to-dos miran a su alrededor, el diácono ya había sa-lido corriendo. Luego traen al sacerdote. El guar-dia grita: "Listos... apunten..." y de repente el sa-cerdote grita: "¡TORNADO!" Cuando todos se agachan, el sacerdote ya había salido corriendo. Para entonces, por supuesto, el obispo lo había resuelto. Lo traen y cuando el guardia grita: "Listos... apunten...". De repente, el obispo grita: "¡FUEGO!"
Una maestra de escuela dominical les preguntó a sus niñitos, mientras estaban camino al servicio de la iglesia: "¿Por qué es necesario, niños, guar-dar silencio en la iglesia?". Una niña respondió: "Porque la gente está durmiendo". Después de un servicio religioso en la mañana del domingo, un niño le dijo repentinamente a su madre: "Mamá, he decidido ser sacerdote cuan-do sea grande". "Está bien con nosotros", dijo ella, "pero ¿qué te hizo decidir eso?" Bueno, dijo el niño, “tengo que ir a la iglesia el domingo de todos modos, y creo que será más divertido pararse y gritar enfrente que sentarse y escuchar ".

SALVAGUARDANDO A LOS HIJOS DE DIOS Muchos adolescentes obtendrán su primer trabajo mien-tras están en la escuela secundaria. Construir una ética de trabajo es una gran y necesaria habilidad, pero los ado-lescentes necesitan estar informados sobre la mejor for-ma de manejar la posible violencia en el lugar de trabajo. Los compañeros de trabajo no siempre son evaluados exhaustivamente, y su hijo adolescente podría enfrentar la ira o enojo de otro empleado que podría ponerlos en peligro. Hable con sus hijos adolescentes acerca de las señales de advertencia: falta de temperamento, intimida-ción, uso de drogas y sobre cómo retirarse cuando se sienten inseguros en una situación, y cómo informar cualquier inquietud que tengan, a un adulto seguro. El viernes recién pasado celebramos la fiesta del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús. Para expresar la intensidad de nuestro amor ha-cia una persona solemos decir la amamos “con todo el corazón”. Hoy celebramos que Jesús nos ha amado y nos ama “con todo su corazón”. El evangelio de esta fiesta nos recuerda que Jesús murió en la cruz como el Cordero de Dios que quita el pecado del mundo. Jesús muere a la mis-ma hora en que eran sacrificados en el templo los corderos con los que conmemoraba la liberación del pueblo judío de la esclavitud de Egipto. La sangre del cordero pascual protegió los hogares judíos de la muerte por el Angel Exterminador. La sangre de Jesús nos salva de la muerte espiri-tual causada por el pecado.
Del corazón abierto de Jesús manan la sangre y el agua, que han pasado a ser símbolo de los sacra-mentos de la iglesia por los que nosotros recibi-mos la salvación de Jesús. El agua nos recuerda el bautismo que nos purifica de los pecados, y la sangre nos recuerda el sacrificio de Jesús como expresión de su amor sacrificado a la humanidad. Los santos Padres de la iglesia vieron en la muer-te de Jesús un paralelo con el sueño de Adán en el paraíso, cuando Dios tomó una costilla de su costado para formar a nuestra madre Eva. Así, del costado de Jesús dormido en la cruz nació nuestra madre la iglesia, simbolizada por los sa-cramentos.
El amor de Dios al mundo ha sido revelado a tra-vés del amor de Jesús, quien voluntariamente aceptó su sacrificio en la cruz dando su vida por nosotros. Jesús el Buen Pastor que voluntariamente dio su vida por sus ovejas, sin que nadie lo obligara a hacer-lo. El amor de Jesús nos está pidiendo una res-
puesta de amor, ya que “el amor, con amor se paga”.
Nuestro amor a Jesús, como el suyo para noso-tros, debe ser demostrado a través de nuestra vi-da de fe y de nuestro propio amor sacrificado por nuestros hermanos. Jesús no nos pidió nada per-sonalmente para si mismo, pero nos dijo que lo que hacemos por el más pequeño de sus herma-nos se lo hacemos a él. Esto es lo que nos recordó en la parábola del juicio final, donde las obras de misericordia son acciones de amor que Jesús las considera como hechas a él mismo.
La primera lectura nos recuerda el amor de Dios a su pueblo Israel. Este amor nos ayuda a enten-der el amor de Jesús hacia nosotros. Después de que Dios mostró su amor a su pueblo liberándolo de la esclavitud de Egipto, el pueblo respondió a su amor con una cadena de infidelidades y desobediencias. Pero Dios reveló que su modo de proceder no es como el de los humanos que mu-chas veces buscamos venganzas y castigos por las ofensas que se nos hacen.
Reflexión
Sólo en el corazón divino nuestras noches de in-somnio se convertirán en noches de sueños tran-quilos, desembocándose en días de tranquilidad y gozo espiritual. El cuerpo y la sangre de Cristo es nuestra comida celestial. Estos dones han brotado del amor de Dios. Todo es una gracia de salvación brotando del corazón divino. ¡Corazón de Jesús, en ti con-fiamos!

Si usted NO recogió sus boletos de la rifa la semana pasada, hágalo hoy. Hay tres formas de devolver sus Boletos de la rifa pagados. Usando el sobre Feria (Fair)- incluido en su paquete: 1) La Caja Roja en el Patio después de todas las misas dominicales, 2) En la colecta regular de los domingos, 3) La oficina de la iglesia.

REGARDING THE
2018 LOMITA FAIR RAFFLE TICKETS
DISTRIBUTION: Fair Staff members will be dis-tributing the ticket packets to all parishion-ers today after Mass If you are unable to pick up your tickets during that time frame, they will also be available on the patio af-ter all Sunday masses or at the church of-fice during office hours. Raffle tickets have been previously distributed to SMMS families through the school.
RETURN: There are three ways to return your paid Raffle Tickets. Using the Fair envelope enclosed in your packet, return to 1) the Red Box on the Patio after all Sunday mass-es, 2) in the regular Sunday collection, or 3) the church office.
This weekend there will be a second collec-tion for the Annual Priest Retirement Fund. Your generosity will ensure that these men, to whom we owe so much, will be able en-joy their final years of priestly service in peace and dignity and contentment, with-out financial anxiety.
Fr. John will be leaving our parish for his next assignment at the end of the month. Please join us as we wish him well.
