Nurturing the Socially and Emotionally Competent
Adolescent:
Tips to easetransition
for our Sec 1children
Common Developmental Characteristics during Adolescence
Learning about his/her own identity:
o Who am I?
o Where am I headed?
o How do I fit into society?
Seeking acceptance from peers
Leaning on good relationship with parents and guidance from them
I will praise you; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous
are your works; and that my soul knows right well.
Psalms 139
Socially and emotionally competent children...
Are happier, more
contented
Have fewer behavioural
problems
Have increased school
achievement
A Matter of Perspective – Looking back on the 2016 haze
Victim Mentality Blessed Mentality• We are suffering• It is not fair• Why do I need to suffer?
• We only had 1 day of school closure
• We had access to masks (N95s were sent to homes)
• We had subsidised healthcare
• Why can’t someone do something about it?
• I am not bothered about how others are affected, I just know I am affected
• There are others that need more help than us
• We can manage, help those who are in a worse state than us first
• Let’s do what we can to help others
• It is a CHOICE to see the GOOD in every circumstance
• Trust in our Lord God that He works for the good of all who loves Him (Romans 8:28)
