2 Corinthians 13:14 : “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship that is ours in the Holy Spirit be with us all.” The Holy Trinity is the main source of our faith. Our Creator, God the Father, opens the doors to this faith. He loves us and made us in his image and likeness. Jesus, the Son and Redeemer, wanting to be with us, walked this earth and showed us the way to live and gave us everlasting life. The Holy Spirit gives us true knowledge, grace and deepens our relationship in Baptism, Confirmation and the Holy Eucharist. Through the Trinity we are united in our love of Christ!

PASTOR’S RAMBLINGS | 4

WELCOME, CHILDREN OF GOD: Welcome Walter Thomas Merry, son of Luke and Natalie Merry (photo 1). Welcome Lucy Elizabeth Silvestri, daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Silvestri (photo 2). Welcome Charlie Rose Jackson, daughter of Phillip and Emily Jackson (photo 3). CROSS THE BRIDGE FOR LIFE: We had a nice turn out at the Cross the Bridge for Life march. There were so many young adults and young families that joined us this year. It was a beautiful day and I am so excited that I ran into many of our parishioners. Fr. Jacob and Louie also joined me. It would be nice to get a group together from our region for next year’s march to support the hard work that is being done (photo 4)! CONGRATULATIONS: Congratulations Kyle Curry and Kerri McGrail! They celebrated the sacrament of marriage on Sat., June 1 at St. Cecilia (photo 5). GOLF OUTING: St. Cecilia held its first annual Explorers Golf Outing at Devou Golf Course in Covington, Kentucky. Parishioners Ken Jackson and Joe Feldkamp (class of 74’) joined Steve Donovan (class of 74’) and Don Boyle in the inaugural outing. Golfers had a great day on the course (photo 6). Thanks to golfers and generous sponsors, a little over 5K was made and put towards the Jessie Tillery Explorers School program. Special recognition to Josh Pinkey, owner of newly opened Oakley Zips Dry Cleaners, located right down the street, who was the Beer Sponsor for the event! We look forward to partnering with Zips and other Oakley establishments to continue to make Oakley a great place to live! REST IN PEACE: Randy Bennett (photo 7) died on May 29. The Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on June 7 at St. Anthony.

SUMMER WITH THE SAINTS

St. Charles Lwanga and Companions One of 22 Ugandan martyrs, Charles Lwanga is the patron of youth and Catholic action in most of tropical Africa. He protected his fellow pages, aged 13 to 30, from the homosexual demands of the Bagandan ruler, Mwanga, and encouraged and instructed them in the Catholic faith during their imprisonment for refusing the ruler’s demands.Charles first learned of Christ’s teachings from two retainers in the court of Chief Mawulugungu. While a catechumen, he entered the royal household as assistant to Joseph Mukaso, head of the court pages.

On the night of Mukaso’s martyrdom for encouraging the African youths to resist Mwanga, Charles requested and received baptism. Imprisoned with his friends, Charles’ courage and belief in God inspired them to remain chaste and faithful.

For his own unwillingness to submit to the immoral acts and his efforts to safeguard the faith of his friends, Charles was burned to death at Namugongo on June 3, 1886, by Mwanga’s order.

When Pope Paul VI canonized these 22 martyrs on October 18, 1964, he also made reference to the Anglican pages martyred for the same reason.
