Prep Newsletter Friday

11th December 2015

Dear Parents and Friends,

tf

We are fast approaching the end of a typically busy term - where has the

time gone? As we are so close to the end of term it has been useful to

look back at all the good that has happened. In September we

welcomed 26 new girls into the Preparatory School and I am so pleased

that everyone has settled in so well, it’s as if they have always been at St

Margaret’s School!

We have had a number of visitors to the School

to provide opportunities beyond the classroom -

Watford Schools Trust has taken a number of

Year 2s. Reverend Farrar also visited to

take an Upper Prep assembly. St John

Ambulance joined the Upper Prep in

September as part of their Save A Life in

September campaign and helped us to

brush up on our first aid skills. In October

the Upper Prep had a visit from The Young

Shakespeare who taught the girls the

wonderful play about ‘Romeo and Juliet.

assemblies in the

Lower and Upper

Preps and this

week taught a

lesson about

Christmas to the

To consolidate the work in the classroom we aim to go on a number of

trips throughout the year. This term we have had two, the Upper Prep to

see ‘Romeo and Juliet’ at the theatre and next week the Lower Prep are

going to see the ‘Peter Pan’ pantomime.

Other opportunities to learn more about the world or develop personal

skills have included the Lower Prep Environmental Day, The Travelling

Book Fair, sharing your daughter’s work with her in November and the

Upper Prep Enterprise Day in October. Today the Upper Prep joined

forces with the Year 7 and 8s in the School Christmas Market. This gave

the children the opportunity to sell the goods they had made at their

Enterprise Day in October and buy the goods their friends had made,

whilst also having fun having their nails painted or hair braided. This

was organised for the children, by the children and everyone had a huge

amount of fun!

This week we were totally awed and

impressed by the magnificent Lower

Prep Nativity which all of the children

performed to the Upper Prep on

Wednesday, then to their parents on

Thursday. The story was brilliant with

the children acting it beautifully and

singing so angelically and as always

the costumes were just right. It was a

pleasure to see all of our youngest children embrace the story

wholeheartedly and their performance certainly brought a tear of pride

and appreciation to their mummies and daddies. A massive thank you,

especially to Miss Pares who wrote and directed the play, and to all of

the Lower Prep staff.

We have also participated in various assemblies

throughout the term and visited the Chapel twice,

once to celebrate Harvest in October, then today for

Christingle. Your daughter will have come home

today with her Christingle orange and should be able

to tell you what each part represents.

We have also had opportunities to play and prove

our success in Netball matches against other

schools and some of the girls swam in a gala

recently. Over the last couple of weeks our ballerinas

and musicians have taken exams and we are eagerly

awaiting the results. As well as all of the above we

have had an e-safety week and an anti-bullying week.

We enjoy joining forces with the Senior

School as this reinforces that we are

one school. This term we have all had

lunch in the Senior School Dining

Room, Upper Prep were delighted

when they saw the Senior School play

and we have had a number of Senior

School girls volunteering to help our

pupils or work in the After School

Club.

Charity is always important to

us as the act of helping others

can create an improved sense

of well-being and informs us of

the social injustices of the

world, creating in us the desire

to want to help. In September

we spent a day in our jeans

raising money for Jeans for

Genes day, then in October, we

donated to our four House

charities by dressing up as our hero or heroine. On St Margaret’s Day in

November we added our 1p and 2p coins to the whole school coin trail

(the proceeds of which were for Children In Need) and next week, on the

last day of term we will be dressing up for Christmas and again raising

money for our House charities.

The children have worked

tremendously hard this term and their

academic learning is central at St

Margaret’s. Throughout the term your

daughter has been developing and

refining her skills, understanding and

knowledge. In October we held Parent’s Evenings for you to learn how

she had settled into the new year and the progress she was making. Next

Wednesday afternoon her end of term report is available to you via your

parent portal. Next term we will hold a second Parent's Evening for all

Prep parents with Upper Prep parents being able to meet with the

subject specialists as well as your daughter’s Form Teacher.

Upper Prep

The girls in Upper Prep have been busy practising songs to perform to

the other classes in a Christmas extravaganza concert. The beautiful

notes could be heard wafting across the playground over the past week

as they perfected their presentations.

Year 3 performed 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer'

Year 4 have been singing 'I wish it could be Christmas

everyday'

Year 5 learned 'Do they know its Christmas?'

Year 6 chose 'Winter Wonderland'

Lots of fun was had by all.
