ST. MARIANNE COPE PARISH Roman Catholic Churches of St. Thomas of Canterbury and St. Joseph
SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 19, 2020
“THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS LIKE A MUSTARD SEED THAT A PERSON TOOK AND SOWED IN A FIELD.
IT IS THE SMALLEST OF ALL THE SEEDS, YET WHEN FULL-GROWN IT IS THE LARGEST OF PLANTS.”
MATTHEW 13:31-32
Making Church Safe: - The parish recently purchased a Mini-CK sanitizing machine which enables us to quickly sanitize the church, pews, doors, etc., after each Sunday Mass. During the weekdays, volunteers wipe down the pews with commercial sanitizers as well. New touchless sanitizing gel dispensers have been installed in the entrances to St. Thomas also. - Clergy will continue to wash hands and use sanitizer before, after, and throughout Mass, and wear masks especially during Communion. - The bathroom will continue to be unavailable as every use requires the facility be cleaned. Those who have an emergency should speak with a deacon or an usher. - We ask, in accordance with State guidelines, that parishioners wear masks at all times during Mass, wash hands before and after attending, use the sanitizer dispensers and bring their own sanitizer, and receive Communion in the hand only. Social distancing of six feet should be observed as well.
—————————— - Sign-ups for weekend Masses are required. Information on Mass sign-ups will be sent by Flocknote each week and the link will be posted on the website. For those with health concerns, the Sunday obligation continues to be waived. - Worship Aid: Precautions have led us to remove hymnals and other worship aids from the pews. The readings, prayers, and music for the Mass are now available on the website under the Parish Life tab. You can download and print it (please bring the sheet home with you) or view it on your smartphone (best in landscape mode). - The Bulletin is posted on the website each week and there are copies in the church. We encourage you to look at the digital copy as a precaution against sharing items in church. - Confessions will be heard on Saturdays (9-9:45 am) and by appointment. Contact Fr. Rees: [email protected], 845.534.2547, option 7. - Baptisms, funerals, and weddings are now allowed (though limited in the number of people attending). - The Parish O ce is now open for your convenience: Monday-Friday, 9 am-3 pm. Only one visitor at a time.
—————————— Mass for the Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (July 26) will be streamed at stmariannecope.com at 11 am. Sunday and Daily Mass are available at the Catholic Faith Network. For additional Masses, visit: archny.org/mass/.
—————————— Thank you to everyone for continuing to support the parish with your generous o erings! - If you give through envelopes, please send mail them to the parish o ce (340 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY 12520) or, when you stop by to say prayers, drop them o in the large donation box at the parking lot entrance to St. Thomas Church (9 am-5 pm). - Give online through ParishSOFT Giving. Visit the website and click on the ParishSOFT Giving button. O erings can be made one-time or recurring and your donations (by debit/credit card or a transfer from a bank account) are sent directly to the parish.

A Note from Fr. Rees: Monies from the Payroll Protection Program enabled this parish and others to continue to keep our staff employed and to provide them with their health care benefits.
Please note: because of the change in the Mass schedule, all intentions will be adjusted accordingly. The offering for an announced intention is $15. Up to two separate intentions will be accepted at the Saturday Vigil Mass at 4:30 pm and the Sunday 10 am Mass. The
Registration for Faith Formation Classes! Though registration ended on July 1st, we will continue to allow registrations, due to the COVID-19 quarantine, for our Family Formation and Confirmation Preparation Classes (religious education) program via the link on the parish website. A pdf of the Registration Form is also online for you to download and mail to the Parish Office. Classes begin in First Grade. For information about the programs or assistance in registering, contact Annmarie O’Connor at [email protected] or (845) 534-2547, ext. 2.
—————————— Please no food donations! Our recent food collection provided more than enough supplies and went so well that in the future, we are only going to accept donations this way. If you wish to help the poor, don’t forget that there are poor boxes inside both entrances to St. Thomas Church.
RCIA/T (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and Teens), is a process for people to enter the Catholic Church and complete the Sacraments of Initiation. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Catholic Church, completing Communion and Confirmation, or simply want to inquire more about this process, email Mary Ellen Tiernan at [email protected].
—————————— Mass cards for 2020 Masses are available. Please contact the Parish Office for available dates.
—————————— Stay involved by staying informed! Sign up on the parish website for Flocknotes using your email or cell number. Flocknotes are regularly sent out with the latest news. Like our Facebook page! Updates are posted there as well.
- Reading I: Wisdom 12:13, 16-19. God, being omnipotent, can also be just and merciful. His justice does not exclude His kindness. An uplifting truth for us, coupled with the fact that God desires us to repent of our sins, which adds hope to our belief. - Reading II: Romans 8:26-27. Through the Spirit, the Christian becomes a child of God, and is thus entitled to the
Spirit’s help in living with his weakness. - The Gospel: Matthew 13:24-43. Here is the rst set of parables explicitly about the kingdom of God. He points out the power even of a small movement from God when it affects the whole of a society. Note here too the impartiality of Jesus, with His inclusion of a man and a woman in successive stories.
“Let a man fear, above all, me, his God, and so much the gentler will he become
toward my creatures and animals, on whom, on account of me, their Creator, he ought to have compassion.”
Bridget of Sweden (died 1373)
