For the Ride Home This is our Church's New Year. A time to renew our love for God and one another. How can we prerare ourselves to accept the Holy Spirit’s invitation and grace to make room in our hearts for Jesus? What special things can we each do to make ourselves ready to welcome Jesus with great joy at Christmas? A very important way to ready our selves to make use of the sacrament of Reconciliation; giving us the most receptive soul possible! Check the church bulletin, find a day and time you as a family can attend a Penance Service. Go joyfully and share this wonderful gift.
Sacramental Preparation Our 1st graders in sacramental preparation are learning about “Jesus our Savior,” and working on their Advent activities to help them prepare for the coming of Jesus. The 2nd graders are starting their preparation for receiving first Eucharist, “We share in Jesus’ Life.” Our last day of class before the Christmas Holidays is Dec. 15 (Sunday session) and Dec. 18 (Wednesday session).
Confirmation for Teens (9th -12th grades) are reviewing their baptismal vows and the creed for their December 8 class. Teens who wish to join us for Confirmation class next year, need to be attending this year at our Catholic School, be involved in Youth Ministry at St. Mark’s, or participate in other Church ministries for their first year, in this two-year preparation process.
It is important to make faith filled memories at home. Another favorite activity to do with your children is to prepare a manger for Baby Jesus. For ever good deed, done for the love of Jesus, children place a straw, or piece of cotton, in an empty “manger” which really represents our heart. We prepare our heart to be ready for Jesus’ coming in this memorable way, so on Christmas Eve, when Baby Jesus is placed in the manger, our children can see evidence of making a warm welcome for the Savior of the World.
Receptionist Position St. Mark’s is seeking a part-time receptionist with hours ranging from 22-28 hours per week. Application deadline is Wednesday, December 18th with the position starting January 6th.
Primary duties include greeting and assisting visitors, answering phones, data entry work, and parish correspondence. Applicant must know Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook. It is essential the Receptionist present a professional and pastoral presence. Interested applicants should complete an application through the parish office.
Youth Ministry The Youth Ministry (8-12 grade) will be hosting a board game and movie night on December 14th, from 7 to 10 pm in Donoghue Hall. There will be tons of games, and a wide selection of films to watch. All 8-12th grade youth of the parish are invited, and are encouraged to bring friends.
Single Senior Bunch St. Mark's Single Senior Lunch Bunch will hold their last meeting of 2013 on Tuesday, December 10. It will be at 12 noon in the old kitchen area of Donoghue Hall. Please bring a covered dish and your own table service. We will be taking a donation toward the use of coffee at that time. Also we will vote on restaurants for the coming year. Please call Betty, 323-8875, with any questions.

St . Mark’s Library Advent brings the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary as well as the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Devotion to the Virgin Mary opens the way to Christ as we await the second coming of our Lord and the Christmas season. The library has many books about Mary, and one in particular entitled Celebrating Guadalupe by Jacqueline Orsini Dunnington tells the story of the Virgin of Guadalupe being received into the hearts and lives of Mexican and Aztec people beginning in 1531 and of the love that continues. The library is open Monday thru Thursday 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Friday 8:30 am to noon, and before and after Mass. Come visit soon and check out available resources!
