MARCH 3, 2019 EIGHT SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Have you ever had regrets? We all have. Usually these occur because of mistakes we made which hurt someone or ourselves. When we are young, we, sometimes do things or fail to do things that lead to regrets because we don’t have the wisdom of experience. Wisdom comes by recognizing our own mistakes and by observing the mistakes that others have made. As we mature, we gain wisdom. However, we don’t always learn from our mistakes. This can happen because we are prideful and don’t want to admit we are wrong, or blind to the harm we have done. It can also happen because we are attached to something that is doing us harm. In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus warns us about the danger of pride and self-assurance in taking or giving advice to others. We cannot give sound advice if we are blind to those same faults within ourselves. We will be like the blind leading the blind that Jesus condemned so forcefully. Unfortunately, much of our blindness is fostered by our culture and the world we live in. “How can something be wrong when so many say that it is not?” “Why should I worry about something when no one else seems to care?” This attitude, we can apply to everything from abortion, sex outside of marriage, from not helping the homeless, cheating or defrauding others, being selfish, or to spreading lies on social media. But thanks to God, we have salvation in Jesus Christ. In fact, God sent Jesus so that we could learn from his life and message. Jesus restored the broken relationship we had with God through the suffering and death he endured for us. Jesus loved us so much, that he would die, rather than choose himself or save himself. The only way to see ourselves, with all of our shortcomings and sins, is in the light of God’s grace and with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. With God’s grace, the Spirit can open us to our blindness and restore a true vision to our hearts and minds. In the Gospel we can find a new direction in our struggle to do better. So, let us pray, that during this coming Lent we overcome our blindness by doing whatever is necessary to walk in the light of God’s revelation to us. Deacon Dan

In the Gospel today, Jesus uses images in speaking to his disciples: “Can a blind man act as guide to a blind man?...Why look at the speck in your brother’s eye when you miss the plank in your own?...A good tree does not produce decayed
fruit....” It is true that donations come to the Society because a good person produces goodness from the good in their heart. Food Pantry Needs: Rotel Tomatoes, Canned or Packaged Tuna and Chicken, Chili, Soups, Granola Bars, Canned Peaches and Cheese/Peanut Butter Crackers.

3 DE MARZO DE 2019 OCTAVO DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO
¿Te has arrepentido alguna vez de algo? Diacono Dan
