BEGINNING EXPERIENCE OF ROCHESTER

Dear Friends,��
I guess in this particular column, I would like to address a couple of things that I really need your help on.��
I considered opening with big block letters reading:�ST. MARTIN de PORRES TO CLOSE SOON (if I don’t get some help) but that would be a tad dramatic and people would misread it.��
We have a great parish. I could not be more proud of the people that make up our faith community. But every year, I struggle with one aspect of running this parish and that has to do with self�nominations for Parish Council.��
The operative word here is “council” because having a parish council has proven to be invaluable to me as a pastor. I need your council to help run this parish. We meet once a month (not in summer months) and right now we need one person from St. Columba’s and two from St. Vincent’s. It’s about as non�threatening as it can get, so please consider nominating yourself.��
Also, (and you’ve heard me write about this previously) I need people from St. Mary’s and St. Columba’s for a Parish Life Committee. Jeanne Dudek made an impassioned plea at St. Vincent’s and we had a number of people sign up but we need people from across the board from all three churches to make this work. So please give it your prayerful consideration and help us to continue to be a great parish.��

Thank You For Pre-Baptism Preparation�Thanks to Laura, Alfred and Amelia Kuhn for leading a compassionate and spiritual session of our St. Martin de Porres Parish's Pre-Baptism preparation. Thanks to Julie Knitter for prepar-ing Hartmann Hall for this session. Five families attended at St. Mary of the Assumption Church on the morning of Saturday, May 19 to prepare for their children to be baptized in our parish churches. Thanks to them for taking time out of their busy Saturdays to make Pre-Paptism a priority. Our next Pre-Baptism session is scheduled in September at St. Mary of the Assumption.�
Share the Journey: Love Your Neighbor��� 8,446 parishioners across our diocese signed the petition on Diocesan Public Policy Weekend (February 10/11). 68 St. Martin de Porres parishioners signed.�� Thank you! In signing the petition, we joined with our U.S. Catholic Bishops to call on the Congress and President to find a permanent legislative solution for Dreamers � the undocumented youth who know the U.S. as their only home � and to provide a path to citizenship for them. �� There has been little action in Congress on this important issue and we invite you to contact your U.S. House Representa-tive to encourage action. Faith Formation Information��Our Parish vision statement calls for life long faith formation. To this end, we have several models to implement among all ages, from small children to adults. Baker (who is being considered for elevation to "Blessed," on his way to be-coming a saint).
