"I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.

`Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?'Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand,

    things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.`Hear, and I will speak;

I will question you, and you declare to me.'I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear,

but now my eye sees you;therefore I despise myself,

and repent in dust and ashes."

And the LORD restored the fortunes of Job when he had prayed for his friends; and theLORD gave Job twice as much as he had before. Then there came to him all his brothersand sisters and all who had known him before, and they ate bread with him in his house;they showed him sympathy and comforted him for all the evil that the LORD had broughtupon him; and each of them gave him a piece of money and a gold ring. The LORDblessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; and he had fourteen thousand

sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand donkeys. He also hadseven sons and three daughters. He named the first Jemimah, the second Keziah, and thethird Keren-happuch. In all the land there were no women so beautiful as Job's daughters;and their father gave them an inheritance along with their brothers. After this Job lived onehundred and forty years, and saw his children, and his children's children, four generations. And Job died, old and full of days.

I sought the LORD, and he answered me *and delivered me out of all my terror.

    5

Look upon him and be radiant, *and let not your faces be ashamed.

    6

I called in my affliction and the LORD heard me *and saved me from all my troubles.

The angel of the LORD encompasses those who fear him, *

    and he will deliver them.8

Taste and see that the LORD is good; *happy are they who trust in him!

The Second Lesson Hebrews 7:23-28Reader A Reading from the letter to the Hebrews. The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death fromcontinuing in office; but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continuesforever. Consequently he is able for all time to save those who approach God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

For it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, blameless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, hehas no need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for those of thepeople; this he did once for all when he offered himself. For the law appoints as highpriests those who are subject to weakness, but the word of the oath, which came later thanthe law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect forever.

As he and his disciples and a large crowd wereleaving Jericho, Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout out and say, "Jesus, Son ofDavid, have mercy on me!" Many sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out evenmore loudly, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" Jesus stood still and said, "Call him here."And they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take heart; get up, he is calling you." Sothrowing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. Then Jesus said to him, "What doyou want me to do for you?" The blind man said to him, "My teacher, let me see again."Jesus said to him, "Go; your faith has made you well." The Nicene Creed BCP 358All standing, the people join in saying

We believe in one God,the Father, the Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only son of God,eternally begotten of the Father,God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,begotten, not made,of one Being with the Father.Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation

he came down from heaven:by the power of the Holy Spirit

he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again

in accordance with the Scriptures;he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son.With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.We look for the resurrection of the dead,

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Holy, holy, holy Lord Sanctus S 129

The people stand or kneel. Then the Celebrant continuesWe give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you have made known tous in creation; in the calling of Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through theprophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus, your Son. For in these last days yousent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Savior and Redeemer of theworld. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In

him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of deathinto life.

On the night before he died for us, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he hadgiven thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, "Take, eat: This is myBody, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me."

After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, "Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed foryou and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for theremembrance of me."

We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the

Sacrament of the Body of Christ and his Blood of the new Covenant. Unite us to your Sonin his sacrifice, that we may be acceptable through him, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, put all things in subjection under your Christ, and bring us to thatheavenly country where, with all your saints, we may enter the everlasting heritage of yoursons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head ofthe Church, and the author of our salvation.
