From our Parish Administrator . . .
We are rapidly approaching June 30th which is the end of our fiscal year and what a year it has been. Even with the “Lock Down” and “COVID-19”, we have managed to survive. Maybe not as well as we all would have liked to, but with God’s helping hand and our determined parishioners we’ve done pretty well. Mass is being celebrated under the pavilions at St. Mary and St. Joseph, confessions are being heard in the Family Life Center and life goes on. I know we are all anxious to resume weekend Mass in the church, but until the 6-foot social distancing rule goes away it is just not practical. On a positive note, I must inform you that our icemaker in the hall has passed away and will shortly be replaced with a unit that is much quieter with the condensing unit being located outside instead of being integral with the dispenser. The new parking lot has been finished, security cameras have been installed in the Family Life Center, new ceiling fans have been ordered for the pavilion and a new sound system has been installed in St. Mary’s (2) pavilions. None of this would have been possible without the continual financial support from you, our parishioners. We are so blessed to be part of this community, even with the “Lock Down” and “Virus” a day has not gone by that we haven’t see parish-ioners out volunteering doing one thing or another to help do God’s work. Thank you for all you do.
Bill Jones
“We must remember that God has no other hands but ours, no other feet but ours,
no other mouth but ours. Therefore,
God is still going to work miracles of love,
miracles of freedom and liberation through people like you and me.”
—Blessed Mother Theresa
The 64th Archdiocesan Youth Conference was set for July 31-August 2 in Houston. Like so many worthwhile events being cancelled over the last few months because of Covid-19—this is one of them!
This year’s theme is “Seek the Truth.” AYC offers our local youth the opportunity to be challenged by some of the best speakers in the
country. All who participate will be blessed with powerful witness and messages from major Presenters such as Joel Stepanek, Cynthia Psencik and Fr. Chester Smith. Matt Lewis and his band
will provide music ministry throughout the conference and the Emcee will be Doug Tooke. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since the conference had to be cancelled, it will be offered through other forms of technology. Our high school students will combine with the high school students of St. Stanislaus in Anderson to listen to the speakers and interact with each other to at least benefit from this wonderful experience.
For the month of July . . .
The Anointing Mass will not be held on July 1. This Mass will take place on the following Wednesday,
July 8, 2020. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Confessions will not be heard on July 1 this month. They will be heard on Wednesday, July 15.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ First Friday Mass WILL be celebrated on July 3.
“Each of you knows that the foundation of our faith is charity. Without it, our religion would crumble. We will never be truly Catholic unless we conform our entire lives to the two commandments that are the essence of the Catholic faith: to love the Lord, our God, with all our strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves.” — Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati
SECOND COLLECTION JULY 11 & 12
Society of St. Vincent de Paul Annual Black Bag Collection
“Extend Mercy to Others"
The Annual Archdiocesan Black Bag Collection in support of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is July 11-12. These monies support our Society’s Archdiocesan Council. The funds collected will enable the Council to assist those on the margins through programs such as the Home Visit Ministry and the Voucher and Resale Store Ministry, which offers clothing, furniture and household goods at no charge to those in need. In 2019, the Society helped over 55,000 friends in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Because of Covid-19, 2020 will be the biggest year ever. Your support is needed now more than ever to help with our mission of charity. We could not do it without you.
So . . . please be as generous as you can!
Registration for fall CCE Wednesday night classes will open
online on August 1st and run through August 31st.
While we aren't exactly sure what the program will look like, there will indeed be one. A well-founded and
instructed faith is particularly necessary to help our children
navigate the troubled waters of life and we must not be neglectful.
We are in need of volunteers to
teach several of our classes. Please prayerfully consider helping
out this year. The Volunteer Registration form will be available
online as well.
RCIA: Rite Of Christian Initiation for Adults Are you not baptized and thinking you would like to become a Baptized Catholic?
Are you thinking of becoming a Catholic? Do you know someone interested in Baptism in the Catholic Faith?
Or you have been away from the Catholic Faith and would like to inquire on returning to the faith?
RCIA “The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults” is the process of educational formation and spiritual
formation by which adults become full members in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church.
RCIA Inquiry classes have started and take place on Sunday’s at 10:00am in the Family Life Center.
The RCIA schedule is posted on St. Mary’s web site. www.smsj.org under “grow in faith”.
We invite all those who are not baptized, those who are baptized in other faiths and
those baptized in the catholic faith that would like to increase their knowledge in Catholicism.
Anyone interested in learning more about the possibility of joining the Roman Catholic
Church or is interested in increasing their adult faith formation are invited to contact RCIA
director Donald A. Picard, Jr. at [email protected] or 936-697-0195.
THE INTENTIONS OF THE HOLY FATHER FOR THE MONTH OF JULY
To better know ‘the concrete problems that trouble the Universal Church, especially those of the missions,’ the Holy Father asks that his monthly intentions be “the object of knowledgeable and responsible prayer on the part of the people of God.”
Pope’s Intention: Our Families. That today’s families may be accompanied with love, respect and guidance.
AA MEETINGS:
Every Monday evening at 8 p.m. in St. Mary’s Family Life Center.
JOIN THE STITCHIN’ SISTERS
Are you interested in bringing back a lost art? Are you interested in having a good time with a great group of ladies? Think about join-ing the Stitchin’ Sisters. Hand quilting seems to be a lost art that we are trying to keep alive. We are a group of ladies that hand quilts three donation quilts a year. One for the Plantersville
Fire Department Auction, one for St. Joseph Bazaar Auction and one for St. Mary’s Bazaar Auction. If time permits between those quilts, we will quilt member’s quilt for a nominal fee. If you do not know how to quilt, we will do our best to help you out. We all have opinions! We can show you how to put up a quilt on a frame, how to mark it, how to quilt it, and how to finish it. We meet every Wednesday from 9:30 to 2:00 at St. Joseph Hall. Bring your own lunch. WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
For more info, Juli Murphy: at 936-206-0677 or email [email protected].
The SM Cemetery Committee is trying to find out all those buried in the cemetery who has served in the military so that on holidays their graves can be marked with
flags. Please call Ann Schwartz at 936-648-1089 to let her know.
IMPORTANT MESSAGE!
The St. Mary Cemetery committee is asking those who
visit their loved ones in the cemetery to please refrain from putting glass vases around the
gravesites. Too many times they get broken and it creates a hazard for those doing the
cemetery cleanup.
Thank you for your support of the Lighthouse Talks CD program.
The kiosk is currently stationed in the
church near the restrooms.
The suggested donation per CD is $4.
The July CD of the month is:
I'm Not Being Fed BY JEFF CAVINS
Jeff Cavins explores and responds to some of the reasons why so many
people have left the Catholic Church for evangelical Christianity. As he presents the story of his return to
Catholicism, Cavins also builds a case for why the Catholic Church is the
Church founded by Christ.
