FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

My good friends,

Our parish committee dedicated to the ‘Black Christ’ celebrated the annual mass for their church in Panama. What a sight! As we imitate what has been done in Panama for centuries, a group of men carry Jesus as he holds on to his cross. But as they lift the statue of the Lord up on high, the image of Jesus tends to ‘dance’ as well – because the men carrying the image of Jesus are themselves dancing to the beat of the music. How awesome to observe what we believe. Even when life throws crosses at us, we can dance. Like our Blessed Mother Mary who STOOD at the foot of the cross, we don’t fold and fall into depression. We laugh at the crosses to come! God bless the magnificent example given to us by the church in Panama! On some other notes, great news in that our semi-narian and friend, Edwin Ortiz is about to be ordained a transitional deacon on Saturday, November 3rd. Eddie will become FATHER Edwin next June. How proud St. Mary/St. Gertrude is of their son. We are happy to say that a young friend from the Dominican Republic, Father Nelson, will be with us for the month of November. We welcome him with open arms…and maybe some of us might help him learn some English!

Prayer for Priests

O Jesus, our great High Priest, hear my humble prayers on behalf of your priests. Give them a deep faith, a bright and firm hope and a burning love which will ever increase

in the course of their priestly life.

In their loneliness, comfort them. In their sorrows, strengthen them. In their frustrations, point out to them that it is through suffering that the soul is purified, and

show them that they are needed by the Church; they are needed by souls; they are needed for the work of

redemption.

Amen.

Padre Frank

Finally, as we are talking about clergy, Father Innasi has been asked by his religious com-munity to take up work back in India and Canada. As most of you know, Father Innasi is one of the leaders of his large, and growing, community of Brothers and Priests. I’m trying to arrange for Father Innasi to come back for a few days and offer a mass of thanksgiving. I’ll keep you all post-ed on that. On this priesthood weekend, I am personally grateful for the support and love that you have always shown to your priests. Every priest and semi-narian who has ever served here al-ways speak glowingly of St. Mary/St. Gertrude! Father Frank
