The nurses and nuns tried everything, but he refused all food and drank only water and juice. One of his buddies knew why the soldier wouldn’t eat - he was homesick. Since the hospital wasn't too far from the soldier’s home, his friend offered to bring the young man’s father to visit him. The commanding officer approved, and the friend went to the parents’ home. As the father was about to leave for the hospital, the mother wrapped up a loaf of fresh bread for her son. Well, the patient was very happy to see his father, but he still wouldn’t eat – that is, until the father said, “Son, this bread was made by your mother especially for you.” The boy brightened up and began to eat. I think that you can guess where l’m going with this story. You and l are that boy. We are the ones who have been wounded in the battle of life. We are the ones who’ve been wounded by sin, by trials and pains, by loss and by our forgetfulness of God. We lose our taste for the food that will strengthen our souls. Holy Communion gives us life, spiritual life, God’s life. It gives us spiritual healing and spiritual strength. There was nothing ‘magic’ about the mother’s bread unless one feels that ‘love’ was the magic—which, of course, it is. Peace, Fr. Bread from Home
I’m reminded of a true story of a soldier who was severely wounded. When he was out of surgery, the doctors said there was a good chance for recovery, except that the soldier wouldn’t eat anything. The nurses and nuns tried everything, but he refused all food and drank only water and juice.
One of his buddies knew why the soldier wouldn’t eat - he was homesick. Since the hospital wasn't too far from the soldier’s home, his friend offered to bring the young man’s father to visit him. The commanding officer approved, and the friend went to the parents’ home. As the father was about to leave for the hospital, the mother wrapped up a loaf of fresh bread for her son.

Entre líneas: ¡Rosa de Lima….la Primera Santa Latinoamericana! Santa rosa de Lima fue una religiosa dominica nacida en la ciudad de Lima, en el entonces Virreinato del Perú, el 20 de abril de 1586. Su nombre de nacimiento era Isabel Flores de Oliva. Sus Padres fueron Gaspar Flores y María de Oliva Herrera. Tuvo una infancia bastante típica, similar a la de otras niñas de la época. Desde el momento en que recibe el sacramento de la confirma-ción es llamada Rosa. Un sobrenombre afectuoso. La joven Isabel se dedicaba a diversas labores para ayudar a soste-ner la economía familiar. Rosa decide abrazar la vida religiosa, sin ingresar a un convento. Con ayuda de su hermano, construyo una ermita en la propiedad de sus padres donde se dedicó a la oración, la contemplación y la reflexión. La joven religiosa. Vivía un régimen de ascetismo y mortificación, dedicadas a largas veladas de oración y lecturas religiosas. Muere el 24 de agosto de 1617 por causa de una grave enferme-dad. Los quiero, reciban mi bendición y no se les olvide orar por mí.
