Be A Friendly Church
In one of the meetings about becoming a better church, this was one of the things mentioned in order
to become a friendlier church. This friendliness must be shown not only to members, the people who have been coming to this church from childhood, but to the visitors in particular.
One might hesitate to offer friendliness to a stranger, because one might fear that the offer of friendship might be taken the wrong way. That kind of thinking might be in the wrong place, because it is a church where we are all God’s children; and we come to worship our common God.
The purpose of this letter is to ask everyone not to claim any seat in the church as one’s own seat. It is the greatest act of un-charity to come to a particular seat and find someone is already seated there; and you ask that person to move because that is where you normally sit each Sunday.
Our church is not a large church. One can sit in any seat in the church and see and follow the entire mass without missing any action by the priest. It may be good to make it a point to sit in a different place in the church for from time to time. You will find out that the different seat is just as good as the one you normal-ly claim as yours on Sunday.
The reason I’m writing on this subject due to an incident that occurred with one of our visitors. When one of our parishioners arrived at church and found a visitor in their seat they asked the visitor to move. I’m sure that visitor was embarrassed and may never visit our church again.
Make it a point to show yourself friendly to everyone at our Sunday worship, the sacrifice of the mass. fence.
