PENTECOST SUNDAY
FIRST FRIDAY ADORATION
IN THE CHURCH
Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament
and Solemn Benediction will take place this
Friday, June 5th, following the 8 a.m.
Mass and will continue with Divine Mercy
at 3 p.m. and will conclude with Benediction which
begins at 5:30 p.m. Please use the side door off of the
large parking lot to enter the church. All must wear a
mask, hand sanitize when entering, social distance
while in the church, and please stay within the
designated areas of the church. All are invited to spend
some time in quiet prayer with our Lord - come for even
15 minutes to spend time in the Real Presence of God!
During the COVID-19 pandemic, let us continue to pray for one another during this difficult time.
We need to keep in our prayers those who have died, those who are sick, the medical personnel,
and first responders who are tending to the sick. We pray, too, that the virus be contained and that
a vaccine be developed soon.

PUBLIC MASSES
On May 18th, Governor Baker issued directives for the
first phase of reopening some industries and activities,
including houses of worship. On May 25th, we received
instructions from Bishop da Cunha in which he informed
us that in the Diocese of Fall River our churches will
reopen for public Masses on the Feast of Pentecost,
beginning with the Vigil on Saturday May 30th. Bishop da
Cunha also included the directives that individuals (not a
family) must keep a distance of six feet apart (meaning that
every other pew must be roped off), and that the Church
must be cleaned and sanitized after each Mass. While we
have been able to sanitize the reduced area that was open
during the week, this last requirement will be a challenge
but we will follow it.
For those who wish to attend weekend Mass, we are
required to use only one entrance, so you will enter at the
front of the Church. We have provided 4 additional
handicapped spaces near the front of the Church. You will
be required to wear a mask, and you will sanitize your
hands upon entering the building. You will then find a seat
maintaining the six foot distance from non-family
members.
We have been instructed that there will be no
congregational singing, nor will missalettes/hymnals be
used or bulletins distributed.
There will be no collection taken during Mass. There will
be receptacles at the exits when you leave Church for
donations. For Holy Communion, you will process down
the SIDE aisles in a single file. Just before having the
Eucharist dropped into your hand, the mask and gloves
must be removed. During this period of health concern, the
Diocese has instructed that in order to avoid a greater risk
of contamination, Communion should be given only in the
hand and NOT on the tongue.
At the conclusion of Mass, you may leave using any of the
exits but doing so ONE PEW AT A TIME.
Once everyone has left, the Church will be cleaned and
sanitized.
Obviously this is all new. We may need to modify how we
conduct Masses after this first weekend, so I ask for your
continued patience.
PLEASE CONSULT THE PARISH WEBSITE DURING
THE WEEK TO BE APPRISED OF ANY CHANGES.
TAPING OF WEEKEND AND
WEEKDAY MASSES
We will continue to tape the 4 p.m. Vigil Mass each
weekend, and the daily Mass (see the change in time for
the daily Mass further in the bulletin) and it will be posted
on the Parish website for those who wish to view it.
Consider the possibility of a
vocation to the priesthood,
diaconate, or religious life

CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL NOW
CALLED CATHOLIC APPEAL
There have been some significant changes to the Annual
Catholic Charities Appeal that I want to bring to your
attention. The Diocese has decided to change the name of
the Catholic Charities Appeal to the Catholic Appeal. The
Appeal had traditionally been held during the months of
May and June. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has
been delayed until June 1st through July 31st. The Diocese
has also decided that it would take over the mailings which
in the past have been handled by the individual parishes.
Bishop Edgar da Cunha will send a letter along with a
contribution card with the first mailing. The Diocese will
then send a second mailing later in June with the letter
from the pastor.
In the past, the pastor’s letter would be in the first mailing.
In that mailing I would send individualized letters to those
who gave the previous year thanking them again for their
prior donation and asking them to consider another
donation. It does not seem feasible for me to send
individualized letters in this new timetable. I simply want
to mention this before the Appeal begins.

WELCOME HOME COLLEGIANS
& GRAD STUDENTS
Although we have not been able to see you, I realize that
most of you have been home since the shutdown in March.
Learning online has not been the ideal, but you were able
to complete the semester and year. We look forward to
your presence and participation among us once the Church
is open. For those who have been or will be graduating in a
virtual ceremony or at a live ceremony later in the year, we
offer our congratulations on this important milestone. As
you begin a new phase of your life either in the workplace
(hopefully you will find work during these unprecedented
times) or graduate school, we extend our prayerful best
wishes.
CONGRATULATIONS
HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES!
Like their college counterparts, our high
school seniors have been finishing up their
high school education online. We have parishioners in
many schools (Xaverian Brothers, Bishop Feehan,
Mansfield, Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical,
Wheeler, Norton, Oliver Ames, Mount Saint Charles, and
Saint Mary Academy - Bay View), so I am not aware of
how each school is handling graduation. Nevertheless, we
extend our congratulations to them. We will keep them in
our prayers as they go on to college, join the work force, or
enter the service.
As we have done in the past, I would like to schedule a
High School Senior Mass in the summer. More
information on that to follow.
PENTECOST
This weekend is Pentecost. Liturgically, this
weekend marks the end of the Easter season.
CHANGE IN TIME OF DAILY MASS
As part of the resumption of public Masses, the Diocese
has required that the Church be sanitized after each Mass.
Since we want to keep the Church open each day for visits
and private prayers, we will do so in a reduced area that
will be accessible. In order for the janitors to have
sufficient time to disinfect the Church in the morning, we
will need to change the daily Mass time from 7 a.m.
to 8 a.m. for the foreseeable future. You will be asked to
use the side entrance facing the parking lot, and follow
the directive that individuals must keep a distance of six
feet apart. The front half of the Church will be accessible.
The Church will be open until 6 p.m.
DISPENSATION FROM
THE OBLIGATION TO ATTEND
WEEKEND MASS
Bishop da Cunha has extended the dispensation from
the obligation to attend weekend Mass remains in effect
until further notice.
Bishop da Cunha is aware that many people, because of
age or a medical condition, should not attend Mass during
this pandemic. Likewise, many may prefer to stay home
because of fear of contracting the virus. In light of this, the
dispensation will remain in effect.
THANKS!
During these unprecedented times, we are grateful to Kris
Jepsen for taping each daily Mass, and to Rob Sibilia,
working in conjunction with Jack O’Neill of Mansfield
Cable, for taping the weekend Mass, and to Sue Caughey
for posting all on our parish website.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK:
Sharing The Word Of God In
Our Parish Family And Our Homes
It is wonderful to hear how many families are using the
“Question of the Week” to discuss the readings at Mass on
the way home from church or around the dinner table. How
about trying it with your family?
Read Today’s 1st Reading: Acts 2:1-11
Question for Adults: Share about times when you felt the
power of the Spirit, giving you the right words, giving you
insight into a dilemma, or in other ways.
Question for Youth: On Pentecost, the apostles were able
to speak in a language that everyone could understand.
How will you make Jesus more known to others in your
own way this week?
Question for Children: When have you heard your inner
voice or conscience guiding you to do what is right?

SOCIETY OF
ST. VINCENT de PAUL
St. Mary’s Conference - Mansfield
PENTECOST
In today’s Gospel of John, on the evening of that first day of the
week, when the disciples were hidden, and the doors were locked
for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said
to them, “Peace be with you….as the Father has sent me, so I
send you.” And when He had said this, He breathed on them
and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you
forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are
retained.”
The Feast of Pentecost brings Jesus’ ministry into focus: We are
sent to continue Jesus’ ministry, armed with the Holy Spirit and
specific instructions as to what we are to do -- forgive! By His
ascending into heaven and sending the Holy Spirit, Christ made
His mission our mission. To forgive doesn’t mean to forget-- it
means to restore love! This is the ministry for which the Spirit
empowers us, and this is how we can live in peace. (Living Liturgy)
In what way does the Holy Spirit lead and guide you
to bring peace to your neighbors in need?
“In this time of social distancing, it is extremely important to
check in with loved ones and neighbors through phone calls,
letters, and other safe forms of communication. Now more than
ever, the sick, elderly, shut-ins, and those with less stable
employment, need our care and support.” (Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha)
