SAINT MARY PARISH FAMILY 20TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 16, 2015
Ministry Opportunities
We know that there is a lot of talent in our parish and this is an opportunity to share it with other parishioners, a
wonderful form of stewardship. Skills we are looking for include writing, editing, proofreading, marketing, public
relations, graphic design, web design, general computer skills and photography. If you would like to find out more about this ministries, please write to email [email protected].
We are pleased to welcome Pilot Bulletins, a division of the Pilot Media Group of the Archdiocese of Boston, as our new publisher of our weekly bulletin. We hope you will notice increased quality of the reproduction of pictures and quality of the paper on which it is printed. As we go along and become more familiar with what this program has to offer, you will see new and different stories and graphics. We are anxious to share their extensive children’s pages. We are particularly grateful to our advertisers who make it possible for us to produce this weekly document with their ongoing support. We ask that you return their generosity by supporting them
Transportation Ministry This ministry is one where you can offer a great service to your fellow parishioners. There may be an elderly or disabled neighbor of yours who would love to attend Mass and church social events, but does not have transportation. This ministry involves minimal time, but maximum satisfaction. We would try to match you up with someone in your area, so you don’t have to go out of your way to pick them up.
Communications Ministry The mission of the St. Mary’s Communications Committee is to develop, coordinate and use
communications tools that will support the goals and mission of St. Mary’s Parish.
Coordinate parish communications, including website, weekly bulletin, email, newsletters, and other
media.
Keep parishioners current about parish activities and opportunities to share talents.
Build community through sharing information with parish members, newcomers and the larger
community.
Examine current communications efforts, brainstorm new ideas, and seek to develop more effective
means of communication.
We are looking for a full-time Administrative Assistant for our Parish Office. Hours are 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. Salary commensurate with experience.
Please forward your resume to Steve Ultrino, St.Mary Parish, 158 Washington Street, Winchester MA 01890

ADORATION OF THE
MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT When He returned, He found them asleep. He said to Peter, "Simon,
are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one hour?" Mark 14:37
Come and spend the most peaceful hour (or part of an
hour) of your week with Jesus. Each Friday after the 9 AM
Mass the Blessed Sacrament is exposed upon the altar
(Lower Church). The recitation of the Chaplet of Divine
Mercy will take place at 3:00pm, followed by reposition.
Please join us. We are committed to having at least two
persons present at all times of Adoration. There is a sign-in
book in the Gathering Room near the entrance to the Mary
Chapel. If you can commit just one hour or more, please
call Ursula Koslowski at 781-729-6170 or email
The Daughters of St. Paul, Catholic Sisters from Boston who run a Publishing House, will be here at our parish after all the
Masses next weekend: Aug. 22nd & 23rd. They will bring a wonderful selection of materials which they publish and produce: Spiritual reading, Bibles, Lives of the
Saints, books for Children, DVD’s, music and more! Be sure to stop by and peruse their materials which will assist you with the faith formation of your
family. Find a good book or two for yourself or for gift giving!

August 16 –Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Both the reading from Wisdom and Saint Paul’s word to the Ephesians caution against foolish behavior: “forsake foolishness”; “live not as foolish persons”. And today, Jesus continues to teach us about the Bread of Life. The ultimate foolishness is being absent from the banquet of the Lord. Do you know someone who isn’t here this week? Pray for strength to invite that person to come to the table.
PRAY FOR PEACE AND SAFETY
If you have a family member serving overseas, please let us know. We will publish their names in the bulletin to remind everyone to ask God’s blessing on them, that they may return safely to their families.

Assumption of the Blessed Mother
Let us call upon Mary during this feast day of the Catholic Church to strengthen our resolve to respect all life. “Mary, bright dawn of the new world, Mother of the living, to you we entrust the course of life. Look
down, O Mother, upon the vast numbers of babies not allowed to be born, on the poor whose lives are made difficult, on men and women who are victims of brutal violence, on the elderly and the sick, those killed by indifference or out of misguided mercy. Grant that all who believe in Your Son may proclaim the Gospel of Life with honesty and love to the people of our time. Obtain for them the grace to accept the Gospel as a gift ever new, the joy of celebrating it with gratitude throughout their lives and the courage to bear witness to it resolutely, in order to build, together with all the people of good will, the civilization of love and truth, to the praise and glory of God, the creator of Love of Life.” Saint Pope John Paul II

As we gather here at God’s invitation, we will feast at two tables: the table God’s Word and the table of the Eucharist. Wisdom speaks to us in the first reading, inviting us to “advance in the way of understanding.” Jesus speaks to us in the Gospel, inviting us to share in his Body and Blood. May our prayer today be that we will be nourished by both God’s Word and the Eucharist, so that we may go out and do God’s will in the world. What specific “hunger” do I bring to my sharing in Jesus’ Eucharistic feast today? Like the crowds, what doubts?
