The word “Epiphany means “revelation” or “manifestation.” In today’s feast we reflect on how Jesus is the manifestation of God’s presence and action. Three events reveal

this presence: the visit of the Magi, as recorded in Matthew’s gospel; the wedding feast of Cana; and the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River. The primary image is that of light. Through Christ, the Light, we see the presence of a loving God among us. As Matthew’s gospel describes the Magi brought gifts to the Lord: gold, symbolic of his Kingship; frankincense, symbolic of his role as priest; and myrrh, symbolic of the embalming oil of Christ’s death. In the early days of the Church, it was the feast of the Epiphany not Christmas that gifts were given. The liturgy of Epiphany would be a good occasion for us to reflect on our own spirit of generosity in sharing the many gifts we have received from our heavenly Father. The sharing is not only material gifts, like material good to the poor, but also the sharing of spiritual gifts: kindness, compassion, a spirit of peace. May this Epiphany feast inspire us to practice generous gift-giving as we enter into this new year. My prayers are with you each day. ~Fr. Mike.

Lord’s Laughter

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson went on a camping trip ,pitching their tent under the stars and going to sleep. In the middle of the night, Holmes woke Watson up."Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see." "Millions and millions of stars," Watson replied. "And what do you deduce from that?" Sherlock inquired. "Well, if there are millions of stars and a few of those have planets, it's quite likely there are planets like Earth out there. And if there are planets like Earth out there , there might also be life." "Watson! No!!” Holmes replied."It means that somebody stole our tent!"
