February 11, 2018 Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time Sexto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario I Have Seen the Pilot’s Face Robert Louis Stevenson tells the story about a ship that was in serious trouble in a storm. A passenger on that ship, defying orders, made his way to the pilot, who seeing the fear on the passenger’s face, gave him a smile of assurance. Relieved, the traveler returned to his cabin and said, “I have seen the face of the pilot. He smiled, and all is well.” There are times in life when we need to see our pilot face-to-face. That’s what happened in this mystical story that the Church calls the Transfiguration of Christ. Peter, James and John were there. Moses and Elijah showed up from the past. They have an experience that is mystical and out of this world. I want to call to your attention Verse 8 that says, “Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.” What would a glimpse of Christ himself mean to you today? I Have Seen the Pilot’s Face
Robert Louis Stevenson tells the story about a ship that was in serious trouble in a storm. Queridos hermanos y hermanas:
Una vez más nos sale al encuentro la Pascua del Señor. Para prepararnos a recibirla, la Providencia de Dios nos ofrece cada año la Cuaresma, «signo sacramental de nuestra conversión», que anuncia y realiza la posibilidad de volver al Señor con todo el corazón y con toda la vida.
Como todos los años, con este mensaje deseo ayudar a toda la Iglesia a vivir con gozo y con verdad este tiempo de gracia; y lo hago in-spirándome en una expresión de Jesús en el Evan-gelio de Mateo: «Al crecer la maldad, se enfriará el amor en la mayoría» (24,12).
Esta frase se encuentra en el discurso que habla del fin de los tiempos y que está ambientado en Jerusalén, en el Monte de los Olivos, precisamente allí donde tendrá comienzo la pasión del Señor.
Jesús, respondiendo a una pregunta de sus discípulos, anuncia una gran tribulación y describe la situación en la que podría encontrarse la comun-idad de los fieles: frente a acontecimientos doloro-sos, algunos falsos profetas engañarán a mucha gente hasta amenazar con apagar la caridad en los corazones, que es el centro de todo el Evangelio.
