SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER MAY 25, 2014 Dear Friends,
It is hard to believe that it is Memorial Day Weekend. We take a moment to remember all those who served our country fighting in wars to bring about peace. We remember those who lost their lives fighting for this country both here and abroad. We remember and we give honor and thanks to them. We remember this weekend Fr. Duberley Salazar who was ordained a priest on Saturday morning, May 24 in the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark. We rejoice with him as he celebrates his first Mass here at St. Mary’s at the 5:30pm Mass. We rejoice with him as he begins a life of service to the church as a priest of Jesus Christ. We thank him for his year of service to our parish as a deacon and we know he will be a wonderful priest. We remember in a sad way for Fr. Duberley as he celebrates this great moment in his life, the death of his father, Jose Guillermo Salazar who passed away suddenly early this week as Fr. Duberley was on his ordination retreat. Our hearts go out to him and his family during this difficult time however Fr. Duberley is an example to us of great faith during difficult times. We remember this weekend Fr. Nick who many of you know will be leaving St. Mary’s Parish to go to another parish assignment given by the Archbishop. Fr. Nick wanted to keep his departure low key so per his request there was no general announcement of his leaving or any farewell gathering. He did however, have an opportunity to gather with the Youth Group last Sunday evening to say goodbye as some other parishioners came also to wish him well. We thank Fr. Nick for his two years with us and wish him well in his new parish. Hopefully he will come and visit us here at St. Mary’s. Fr. Nick will be leaving us after this Sunday as he goes for some vacation and rest to prepare him for his next assignment. On another note last week in my column, I forgot to thank Gwen DeLima for her help at the Centennial Mass and Reception on May 10. She did a wonderful job putting together the decorations for the reception in the gym. Also the Knights of Columbus who helped us at the reception as well. Thanks to them and to everyone who helped. People are still talking about it. Have Great Memorial Day and a great week!
May God be Praised, Fr. Dominic

Here are some of the good deeds that the children of St. Mary’s did as a way of showing their love of God and of our parish. We hope that they will always know how important what they do for God and for us truly is. Even though they are still young, they can give us a wonderful example to follow.

A Thought from Venerable Miriam Teresa:
Our Lord tells us clearly, that if our life is to be productive, that is, if it is to bear fruit which will avail us unto eternal life, we must abide in Him. To abide means to continue in one place, to remain, to dwell. We are to dwell in Him alone if we wish to perform works of spiritual value…
(Unpublished manuscript, p. 16)
Please pray for her Canonization and visit our new painting of her located in the vestibule of our church.
Prayer for Canonization
Most Holy and Blessed Trinity, Whom Sister Miriam loved so ardently, grant that we, like her, may become ever more conscious of Your Divine Presence within our souls. We implore You to show signs that Your humble servant enjoys glory with You in Heaven, and to hasten the day when we may render her a public tribute of our veneration and love. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.
