St. Mary's Students for March Madness Prior to School Closings ________________________________________________________________________________________ Tuesday, March 31, 2020 On Friday, March 6th, Wildcats of all ages gathered for St. Mary Catholic Community School’s annual three on three March Madness Tournament. The tournament consists of students from grades 5th-8th in a friendly basketball competition which was held at Andrean High School. From the 5th/6th grade bracket, "The Compadres" team of Russel Olchawa, Brett Beardsley, Josh Eliscupides, and Ian Pitts played their hearts out and won. The 7th/8th grade bracket saw a big win from 8th grade "For Kobe" team made up of Scott Ballentine, Alex Austin, Aiden Austin, and Gabe Vivo. All of the teams came out with great attitudes and incredible drive. This fun tournament was organized by physical education teacher, Mrs. Melanie Light. St. Mary Catholic Community School in Crown Point was opened in 1872. The school offers grade levels Junior Pre- Kindergarten (for three-year-olds) through eight and is the largest grade school in the Diocese of Gary. St. Mary’s faculty teaches a rich curriculum supported by leading-edge technology. Throughout the year, students are invited to participate in fun activities including a three on three basketball tournament, dodgeball tournament, the annual ride your bike to school day, and more. On Friday, March 6th, Wildcats of all ages gathered for St. Mary Catholic Community School’s annual three on three

March Madness Tournament. The tournament consists of students from grades 5th-8th in a friendly basketball

competition which was held at Andrean High School. From the 5th/6th grade bracket, "The Compadres" team of Russel

Olchawa, Brett Beardsley, Josh Eliscupides, and Ian Pitts played their hearts out and won. The 7th/8th grade bracket saw

Referees: High schools students Elizabeth Pellicane, Niki Gerodemos, Patricia Eliscupides,

Marianna Ruiz, Julianne Go, and Brooke Molson served as referees for St. Mary’s tournament.

They are joined by tourney participants (little sisters) Cassie Ruiz and Ava Go.
