An Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

We extend the hand of friendship. We're honored to share this day with you as we worship God. We hope that the celebration of the Holy Eucharist and other events posted on our website and

Facebook will touch your heart and that you experience a sense of peace. We also hope you'll continue in the knowledge that St. Mary/St. Benedict parish is a home away from home.

Deacon Randy Smith is available for all your needs and concerns. You are welcome to contact him directly: 330 323 5904.

SAINT RITA OF CASCIA (1381-1457) May 22 If you’re ever in Philadelphia on May 22, forget parking anywhere near Saint Rita’s shrine. Cars line streets and fill medians as throngs pack a candlelight vigil and six Masses, honoring this patroness of lost causes, hopeless sit-ua ons, and—as her statue in countless churches built by twen eth-century immigrants tes fies—difficult mar-riages, troubled homes, and alienated children. Wise people warn, be careful what you pray for. “Divine Savior,” Rita prayed, “let me suffer like you!” Obedient to parents who refused her wish to become a nun, Rita married a man who returned her devo on with twenty years of abuse. When enemies murdered him, Rita’s two sons swore revenge. Pain ngs depict her poin ng the angry boys toward Christ crucified, whom she begged to restrain them. Within the year, both sons died. Alone now, Rita went to the convent but was refused. The nuns feared violence, since one of them was related to the murderer. Rita arranged peace between the families, made vows, and be-came much sought a er as a counselor and intercessor for forty years on earth—and ever since in heaven.

On Mother’s Day we honored all mothers: biological mothers, step-mothers, adop ve mothers, foster moth-ers, both alive and deceased. While our own mothers hold a special place in our hearts, there is one mother who is “mother to all,” Mary, the Blessed Mother. We should take me to reflect on her life throughout Scripture and to incorporate her motherly presence into our own lives. When we are in need of peace in our lives, especially during this difficult period in the world, praying for the intercession of the Blessed Mother brings the comfort that we all seek. Let us remember that Mary

has appeared to many diverse peoples throughout difficult periods in history. This year, while we may be celebra ng differ-ently due to the current circumstances, we can s ll honor the greatest mother of all through prayer and reflec on.

NOTE: We will print a full list of all flower dedica-

ons once there is clarifica on on parish re-openings. Flowers will be used for a very special welcoming celebra on. PARISH RECORDS UPDATE If you have changed phone numbers and or your address in the past 3 years. Would you please contact the parish office. We want to make sure our records remain accurate. Your me is appreciated. Thank you for your con nued support and commitment to St. Mary/St. Benedict Parish Family. NEWMAN CONNECTION Connec ng Your Graduates to Campus Ministry is Incredibly Important Now. Life, as your high school seniors have known it, feels canceled this year. With spring sports, proms, senior trips, awards and recogni on ceremonies canceled, our Catholic students are feeling down and defeated. As uncertainty con nues to build, we want you to remember one thing: Your student's futures are not can-celed. We understand you're pivo ng and shi ing how you view “normal,” we're pivo ng too. This year the focus will be on digital sign-ups and mee ng students where they are -- most likely at home. When your gradua ng high school student signs-up for Campus Industry, we can en-sure that they stay connected to the faith during college.

THE REASON FOR OUR HOPE “What is the reason for your hope?” Imagine somebody coming up to you and asking you that ques on. Not “What are you hoping for?” or “What are you hoping to do?” No, this isn’t about our desires for possessions or aspira ons for life, it’s “Why do you hope?” Peter today tells us that we ought to be ready to give an answer to this ques-

on. Truth be told, few of us spend much me thinking about why we hope. Luckily, the scriptures today give us our answers. We hope because Christ suffered for us, in order that we might come to God. We hope because we know that, in the Spirit, God grants us another Advocate through Christ to remain with us always. No ma er what we might hope for, whatever we might hope to do, we must always first know and proclaim the reason for our hope: the presence of God in Christ, with us through the power of the Spirit.

Aultman Hospital

...Though it has been a difficult me and heart wrenching to see what our pa ents and staff are going through we have been overwhelmed by the out pouring of love and kindness by many generous individuals, business professionals and churches. I wish you could see our dedicated staff members in ac on, facing a scary me yet right in there in the thick of things. Our great staff has refused to let any COVID pa ent die alone. True heroes!. . .We covet your prayers and thank you for caring. With that being said, we are in need of more material and supplies for masks here at Aultman. In addi on, we are in need of more individuals to make masks for staff and those who are coming in for treatments or procedures. We hesitate to ask since many of you have been so kind and generous but if you could rally again to this need we would be so apprecia ve. If you can help or know of anyone willing to help please contact Lee Kenny, our Vol-unteer Coordinator, and she will get back with you for any ques ons and drop off dates, mes and loca ons. You can email her at [email protected] or text or call her cell at 330.418.0886.

FACE MASKS

Are you or someone you know making masks?

Would you be willing to make them for the parish?

We would really like to have some in black plus the four liturgical colors for priests to wear during Mass. We would only need a

few of each color. Please, call the office and let us know.

Act with gentleness and reverence toward all, so that when you are maligned those who

defame you will be the ones put to shame.

CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH

I The Historical and Transcendent Event Chapter Three IV THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST IN THE FULLNESS OF TIME “Rejoice, you who are full of grace…” 722) The Holy Spirit prepared Mary by his grace. It was fi ng that the mother of him in whom “the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily” should herself be “full of grace.” She was, by sheer grace, conceived without sin as the most hum-ble of creatures, the most capable of welcoming the in-expressible gi of the Al-mighty. It was quite correct for the angel Gabriel to greet her as “Daughter of Zion”: “Rejoice.” It is the thanksgiving of the whole People of God and thus of the Church, which Mary in her can cle li s up to the Father in the Holy Spirit while carrying within her the eternal Son. 723) In Mary, the Holy Spirit fulfills the plan of the Father’s loving goodness. With and through the Holy Spirit, the Virgin conceives and gives birth to the Son of God. By the Holy Spirit’s power and her faith, her virginity became uniquely frui ul. 724) In Mary, the Holy Spirit manifests the Son of the Fa-ther, now become the Son of the Virgin. She is the burning bush of the defini ve the-ophany. Filled with the Holy Spirit she make the Word visi-ble in the humility of this flesh. It is to the poor and the first representa ves of the gen les that she makes him Known.

VIRTUS VIRTUS is a na onal program for Child Abuse and Protec on. It focuses on how to prevent abuse and neglect and how to spot “signs” when working with children and vulnerable adults. The diocese began this program as a way to safeguard our people. All volunteers and staff are required to be cer fied in the VIRTUS program. In addi on to a ending the session, all will need to have updated finger print and background checks. The cer fica on, the finger print and back-ground verifica ons need to be keep on file at the parish office. The diocese will audit the records regularly. It is very important that we at St. Mary/St. Benedict stay compliant. Deacon Randy is a Facilitator of the program. Plans are to set class dates and

mes (TBD we will keep you posted). If you have not par cipated in the new VIRTUS class or updated your records in the past 3 years you will need to do so. Most people do not want to take the me or feel that it is necessary to come to the session, but be assured, everyone learns something new. There are also some good follow-up discussions where we learn from each other. If you have any ques ons please contact the parish office 330 453 2110 or Deacon directly 330 323 5904.

Thank You!

Do you know of a High School Senior that is gradua ng this year? Do you have an 8th grader in the family? If so, please

give their name(s) to the parish office or Deacon Randy. We are planning to

“connect” with them.

On A Happy Note You will see some posi ve improvements in the next few weeks to the exteriors of

our church sites. St. Benedict's front yard is already looking fantas c with the removal

of the once central “weed garden.” With the improvements we wish to convey that we are an ac ve parish with our sights

set on a strong future.
