We are now collecting full size shampoo/conditioner, bar soap/body wash, deodorant, toothbrush/toothpaste and razors for the gift bags for the residents of Magnificat House— pick up a tag in the back of the church. We also add sweatshirts (size large to 4X) and white socks (men and women) to the gift bags. Bingo prizes are needed (mostly men’s prizes) as well as individ-ually wrapped candy —save your Halloween candy leftovers! We are expecting over 100+ persons to attend and want to give them a great meal, gift bag and fun bingo party with prizes– this is an event that Magnificat House looks forward to all year. Any monetary donation is gratefully accepted and appreciated. Please put donations in collection basket, marking it “Magnificat House”. Thank you for your support of this event– God bless you for your generosity. If you have any questions or want to volunteer, please call Barba-ra Syzdek @ 713-466-0970 or Margie Brogger @ 713-466-4914. Friday, December 13– Wrap gifts for Magnificat House –10 a.m. Sunday, December 15– Magnificat House Lunch Party 11 a.m.

2019 MAGNIFICAT HOUSE

Christmas Baskets 2019

Our Advent Penance Service will be on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at 7 p.m.

There will be additional priests for individu-al confessions in English and Spanish.

This is a very important part of our Advent preparation.

Reminder: Many organizations and clubs use rooms in the administration building and church. When you hold a meeting/event please clean up as much as possible, turn off lights and shut the door to the room. Turn off air conditioner/heater. By following these simple rules we will save on elec-tricity bills and it will make it more convenient for the lock-up person in charge.

OUR FOOD PANTRY is taking donations for our Christ-mas Basket Program. We need 75 Turkeys and toys/gifts for babies through 12 years of age. This very worthwhile program benefits 100 families in our community by providing a turkey, a box of goods and fresh produce to have a nice Christmas dinner. We also provide gifts for all their children from babies up to age 12. Our Christmas baskets will be distributed on December 7th. The Food Drive Bags are located in the back of church with list of items needed, please fill and return to the church or parish of-fice. Please bring the turkeys in to the parish office. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Christmas Basket Program Wednesday, December 4– Sort and wrap gifts 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Friday, December 6– box produce/canned goods 10 a.m. Saturday, December 7– Distribute baskets (start time) 9 a.m.

Lots of volunteers needed each day! See Green Flyer at the back of the Church.

Safety Information from Administration Office

Around the parish...

Safety issues: Renovation of our church and chapel is be-ginning. The church will not be available during the week. Scaffolding will be up and it is unsafe to enter the church. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE CHURCH Monday through Friday, for your safety. On weekends, you will see the progress as it occurs. Do not be alarmed if you see raw wood as this is necessary to support the beautiful wood which will be installed. Thank you, St. Matthew’s Admin-istration Office. Dear Parishioners, We currently have sponsors for the fresh flowers on the altar every week. These flowers commemorate an anniversary or birth-day, or are given in memory of a loved one, etc. The current cost of the flowers each week is $65.00. We all know that fresh flowers last only a couple days before they are wilted, so we have thought about another way to honor an event or loved one. Starting January 1, 2020, for those wishing to commemorate a special time (birthday, anniversary, etc) or in memory of a loved one, we will change to the family now sponsoring the bread and wine for a weekend. Your name will be listed in the bulletin with the reason for the sponsorship (anniversary, birthday, in memory of…, etc) as is currently done. Example: Bread and Wine this week sponsored by ________ in honor of _______________ or in memory of ______________. Greenery and live plants will be on the altar with seasonal plants also at various times of the year. By making this change, our altar will remain beautiful with live plants and sponsorship to honor an event or loved one will continue. Thank you for all you do for St. Matthew’s.

¡Gracias!

SOLEMNITY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST THE KING/ SOLEMNIDAD DE JESUCRISTO REY DEL UNIVERSO

Stewardship Reflection / Reflexión Sobre Las Lecturas

Feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe: November 24 That we may serve Jesus, Our King, with love and gratitude, generously offering our gifts to help build up the kingdom of God here on earth. “….giving thanks to the Father, who has made you fit to share in the inheritance of the holy ones in light.” Colos-sians 1:12 God wants us to be happy! Instead of looking at the Ten Commandments as being restrictive and telling us what we can’t do, look at them as guides for living a joy-filled and peace-ful life. Most of our problems arise when we put our own needs first or spend most of our time trying to acquire “things”. Try putting God first in all things instead. Ask Him how He wants you to use your gifts.
