GRACE AND ETERNAL LIFE Moses is a man after our own hearts, for haven’t we

all dealt with more than our share of stiff-necked people?

Indeed, haven’t we all gotten a little stiff-necked our-

selves at times? Complaining . . . impatient . . . quick to

anger. ow lucky for Moses—how lucky for all of us—

that God is exactly the opposite! And we don’t even have

to guess about it. The Lord tells us so directly. Accord-

ingly, Moses does what we all need to do. Even with the

tablets in hand, he bows down and asks for God’s for-

giveness and grace.

Encouraging us to live together in peace—and in

God’s favor—the Apostle Paul knows all about this

grace, joyfully invoking Christ’s grace on us along with

God’s love and the oly Spirit’s. “Rejoice,” he says. And

when it comes to rejoicing, John offers us the gladdest

words of all: the assurance of eternal life through Jesus. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Second Reading — Brothers and sisters, rejoice. Live with one another in peace, and the God of peace will be with you (2 Corinthians 13:11-13).

Second collection next weekend - St. Mary Seminary (ArchG ) FEAST OF CORPUS C RISTI ~ Sunday, June 14 On the Feast of Corpus Christi, the total offertory in every parish of the Archdiocese is dedicated to the support of those studying for the priesthood. Over a million dollars is needed from this collection to support our seminarians studying for the priest-hood. To achieve this goal, Cardinal DiNardo requests that you double the amount of your regular church support for the weekend of June 13 & 14. If each contributor will do this, the needed subsidy will be met by this collection. In gratitude for the incomparable gift of the oly Eucharist which is insepara-bly joined to the priesthood, please do your part to help the archdiocese provide priests for the sake of your future by praying daily for vocations and supporting this collection.

Our deep gratitude to parishioners and visitors for your continue support to the ongoing work of

Christ at St. Matthias.

OUR NEW CHURCH The work on our new church is progress-ing according to the schedule set by our general contractor, Westfall. The clearing

work is complete, all the excess dirt has been removed, and the underground stormwater drainage system installed including excavation of the retention pond. The pad for the church has been completed and the foundation piers have been drilled and filled with concrete. Underground plumbing has been installed under the pad and the electri-cal conduits are being put in place now. The new parking lot is being prepared with lime and a layer of gravel will be spread soon. The new parking area will be used for contractor parking and to store materials during construc-tion as required. It will not be finished until near the end of the project (after all the heavy equipment leaves the site). The sewer line that was discovered serving the homes on Sanders and the apartments on Purvis has been relocated with approval by the city. Our title company is reimburs-ing us for the cost of this additional work. We continue to be very active with our general contractor and architect. They have been conducting detailed re-views of the electrical systems and lighting, plumbing and fixtures, the heating and cooling systems, and attending to the many details of a new construction project. We are also attending status meetings with Westfall every two weeks. Over the next few weeks, piers will be drilled for the SVdP building and pavilion, the church foundation will start to take shape as reinforcing beams and framing are placed, and concrete will start to be poured for the founda-tion. Your support to help KEEP EVERYONE SAFE during construction is very important and much appreciated. DO NOT ENTER T E CONSTRUCTION AREA including any of the cleared areas of our site. This is for your safe-ty!! While we did meet our financial goals for our campaign, thanks to the generous support of many parishioners, our parish will be taking on a sizable monthly payment. If you are still making payments on a pledge, please contin-ue to do so until fulfilled. Any additional gifts to our cam-paign will also be appreciated. If you would like to spon-sor an element of our new church, we have an updated list of items that are available in the narthex. The requested donations for items range from $2,500 to $100,000. Please contact the parish office for more information. Please pray for the safe construction of our new church and for minimal weather delays. Contact our campaign team through Tom Condon at 281-382- 8097 for more information about the campaign or Jerry Strenk at 936-449-6686 with Building Committee questions.

DIOCESAN SERVICES FUND 2020 The 2020 Archdiocesan DSF campaign is

underway in the Archdiocese with this year’s theme

of "Bring Your Greatest Gifts to the Lord". The

Cardinal has set our parishes goal for this year at $65,000. As

of June 01, our parish has contributed $38,977.49 toward

pledges of $52,971.99. Your pledge can be dropped in the col-

lection box, inside the church office or mailed directly to the

Archdiocese. Please confirm that your pledge card indicates

our parish name. Please pray about how you can support this

important campaign that benefits so many needy in the

Galveston - ouston area.

As we celebrate the mystery of the Trinity, we also realize the mystery of how much God Loves and cares for us each day. Believing in this our lives can then over flow in thanksgiving and praise.

Your gift in the St. Vincent de Paul Poor Box will help the poor to believe in the mystery of God’s love for them.

Monthly needed items: dry pinto beans, spam, canned chicken, tuna, soup, Vienna sausage, jelly

Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the

Most oly Sacrament. I love You above all

things, and I desire to receive You into my

You sacramentally, come at least spiritually

into my heart. I embrace You as if You were

already there and unite myself wholly to

You. Never permit me to be separated

from You. Amen.

God of everlasting goodness, you sent your Son among us to bring healing, peace, and reconciliation to our weary world. Be with all health care workers and their assistants in this time of the Coronavirus pandemic.

As they continue Jesus’ ministry of care, renew them in mind, body, and spirit. Keep them safe from infection and illness, and may Christ’s healing presence flow through them as they serve those entrusted to their care. We ask this in his name, Christ the healer, who is Lord forever and ever. Amen. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
