Current Shine Middle School Series (Grades 6-8) Youth Faith Formation

Acolytes

Starting this weekend, December 2nd and 3rd, we will have one acolytes

serving at each of the weekend Masses from here going forward. Acolytes

will not replace Extraordinary Minister Holy Communion or Alter Server’s

ministerial role within liturgies.

Acolytes have a special; ministerial role within liturgies. Acolytes are

instituted men whose primary role is to help serve at liturgies. They

oversee the Altar Servers to make sure everything is setup for the priest to

celebrate Mass. They will also help out with funerals whether that be

saying a rosary or leading a vigil or committal. Historically, acolytes were a

minor order that only men preparing for priesthood would receive. The

Church wants to keep with this tradition and that is why men remain the

only ones that serve as acolytes
