Israel’s relationship with God is so close, so intimate, that it is through Israel that God’s “salvation (will) reach to the ends of the earth” (Isaiah 49:6). But we know from John the Baptist that for Israel to accomplish God’s will, it must also that Jesus is the Son of God. During these weeks we also get to know Jesus. We begin to understand more deeply our relationship to Jesus and what that relationship means for us, who are “called to be holy”(1 Corinthians 1:2). TODAY’S READINGS First Reading—The glory of the LORD shows through Israel, a light to all nations, that salvation may reach to the ends of the earth (Isaiah 49:3, 5-6). Psalm—Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will (Psalm 40). Second Reading—All those who call upon the name of the Lord are called to be holy (1 Corinthians 1:1-3). Gospel—John the Baptist testifies: The one who comes after me, on whom the Spirit comes down and remains, is the Son of God (John 1:29-34).

DID YOU KNOW Discussing dating with your teenager If you’re thinking about letting your teenager date, start by having a conversation about expectations– your teen’s, and yours– talk, too, about how values are to be upheld in every relationship. These conversations will arm your child with important moral checkpoints and safety information. Consider talking about your own experiences and choices. Talk about bad choices, and their consequences. For more conversation topics, get a copy of the VIRTUS article “Talking with your Teen about Dating Safety” at: www.la-archdiocese.org/org/protecting/Pages/VIRTUS-Current-Online-Articles.aspx.

En Cristo, Padre Andrew Dear St. Pancra us, Thank you for your par cipa on last weekend for the parish census. If you were unable to make it to Mass, please stop by the parish office to update your informa on with us. By doing so, you would be saving our parish office staff me and also our parish resources to update the system. We are shi ing over to ParishSOFT, a new computer data-based system. Unfortunately, over the weekend, our stain glass window on the west side of the church near the sacristy was vandalized. It is now boarded up un l repair. So, let us be alert and let people know when something doesn’t seem right. This is our spiritual home and we will take care of it together. All will be well as we welcome the patroness of the Dominican Republic—The Virgin of Altagracia this weekend. Her feast day is celebrated the 21st of January and recognizes Mary having received the highest grace of being the mother of Jesus. Through her intercession, may our parish con nue to grow in our love for Her Son Jesus and be witness-es of the Gospel. Prayer cards in English and Spanish will be available this weekend. In Christ, Fr. Andrew
