The Sanctuary Candle burns in memory of

John Keck

The Blessed Mother Candle burns in memory of Gary Holman

Special Intention

The St. Joseph Candle burns memory of

William McGarrigle Clyde A. Titus

Comfort, give comfort to my people, says your God.

By now, all of us are probably caught up in the whirlwind

that is December…shopping, bargains, gis, decoraons,

pares, lists, etc., etc. What a blessing it is that we can

find in our Church the quiet season of Advent to counter

balance all of the “harriedness.” The season of Advent,

like the season of Lent, is a me of penance and renewal

in our faith lives, a me to look inward and restore the

right order. As Isaiah the prophet puts it…make straight

the path, fill in the low spots, lower the high spots, elimi-

nate the rough spots, even everything out to be nice and

smooth.

We hear Isaiah’s voice very prominently each Advent.

While it is true he was a prophet who wrote to the an-

cient Hebrew people centuries before Christ was born, his

message to us is as valid as it was to them. The Hebrew

people were living in exile far from their own homeland

when Isaiah wrote these words. They lost all that was

important to them. Reflecng on their situaon, they

came to realize that they had grown less than faithful and

less than zealous in their relaonship with God. Thus,

they had allowed sin and perversity to enter their lives.

This led to their exile, not only from their homes and

country, but from their Temple, their center of worship.

The role of a prophet is to bring HOPE to God’s people

and to remind them of God’s promise of redempon.

These are certainly words of comfort.

This holiday me of year can somemes magnify a feeling

of spiritual exile in people due to many different circum-

stances. It may be a ri among family members, or

friends or neighbors. It may be a separaon from the

Church and her teachings and pracces. It may be the

grief of loss. What power we have in Isaiah’s words to us

today…comfort, give comfort to my people. Our guilt is

expiated. What HOPE! What PROMISE!

These Advent days beckon us to do a li8le selfreflecng,

to make our inner selves more even and balanced, to

smooth things out. It is a good me to receive the grace

of the sacrament of reconciliaon. This grace of God

brings us comfort….a comfort we can also offer and share

with others.

May the graces of this Advent season be yours

in abundance!

Sister Eileen

Feast of the Epiphany

Each family is asked to bring Infant and Toddler hats and mittens to Mass on the Weekend of January 6th-7th to be presented at the Offertory Procession. These collected items will then be distributed to the Sisters of Life and the Missionaries

of Charity.

God, in Baptism you called me by

name and made me a member of

your people, the Church. Help all your people to know their

vocation in life, and to respond by living a life of holiness.

For your greater glory and for the service of your people, raise up dedicated and generous leaders

who will serve as sisters, priests, brothers, deacons,

and lay ministers.

Send your Spirit to guide and strengthen me that I may serve your people

following the example of your Son, Jesus Christ, in whose name I offer this prayer. Amen.
