The University Series 2019 Lenten Speaker Series Do you want to improve your daily life by understanding Scripture (and the news), explaining our faith to others, finding joy at home, making better choices, and finding spirituality in life’s ups and downs? The series is a multi-parish adult education program connecting faith with daily life in areas such as current events, spirituality, church history, scripture, faith and science, and evangelization. Our NorCal inaugural season will take place over five weeks at three Marin locations: St. Patrick, St. Rafael, and St. Sylvester.

At St. Patrick Church, the talks will be: March 11, 18, 25, April 1, & 8.

6:30-9PM in Healy Hall

Tuition is $8 at the door, payable by cash or check, and you can bring a guest in for free.

Living God’s Dream For You: Week Three

Please join us for coffee and fellowship as we meet to discuss Perfectly Yourself: Discovering God’s Dream for You on Tuesday mornings at 9AM in Healy Hall. Each week we will discuss a chapter from the book. Please feel free to come, whether you have read the chapter yet or not! Contact Lisa Gramlich, at [email protected] if you have questions or need a copy of the book. On Tuesday, February 19 we will discuss Chapter 3: Looking into the Future: Very simply put, we live in a spending-centered society. Spending reflects ego, and saving reflects character. Invest in yourself. Start to build a dynamic portfolio of virtues. Add all the great virtues to your character portfolio and watch your future blossom.(p.75)

Housing the Homeless, One at a Time You Are Invited

All are welcome to our parish SVDP conference’s fifth in-service on Monday, February 25, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. in Healy Hall. Our speaker will be Howard Schwartz, PhD., Staff Member of St. Vincent de Paul and Director of System Change/Homeless Outreach Team (HOT). This team has been very successful in whittling away the homelessness in our county by housing and caring for those living in the streets. Their goal is zero homelessness in Marin within a couple of years. Come to hear how this very inspirational work is being done.

Monday

February 18

The Clergy Abuse Crisis: Separating Facts from Fiction

February 24, 1:00 – 3:00 pm

St. Peter Catholic Church 700 Oddstad Blvd., Pacifica

Eileen Barsi 650-438-7877 stpeterpacifica.org The clergy sexual abuse crisis in the Roman Catholic Church has been the topic of headline news on and off since 2002. Yet, much misinformation about this critically important problem continues to exist. To separate fact from fiction about the clergy crisis, and to share what we really know and don’t know about clerical sexual abuse within the Catholic Church and elsewhere, St. Peter Catholic Church will host an educational session featuring Thomas G. Plante of Santa Clara University. All are welcome to attend at no charge.

Catholic Charities Immigration Services Serve as a mentor

Catholic Charities Immigration Services has partnered with the Archdiocese of San Francisco to launch the Catholic Accompaniment and Reflection Experience (CARE), a new pilot initiative committed to connecting Catholic volunteers with undocumented immigrants and their families. Volunteers will serve as mentors and provide one of the most vulnerable communities in our county with the support to integrate and comply with their immigration proceedings. If you are interested in making a difference in someone’s life, please email Montserrat Ayala at [email protected]. Make a difference - Volunteer with Catholic Charities!

Share your Catholic values. Help Catholic Charities provide 34,000 people with services ranging from housing, homelessness prevention, case management, senior care, to afterschool programs for disadvantaged children. We seek volunteers to share our work. Help us provide goods to our families and individuals, such as healthy snacks, toiletries, socks, and backpacks. Learn more by emailing Nina Taggart, Volunteer Services Coordinator, at [email protected] or 415-972-1246 or visiting the volunteer page at www.CatholicCharitiesSF.org.

The Archdiocesan Annual Appeal (AAA) provides Catholics in our Archdiocese a unique opportunity to come together. Through the AAA, the over ninety parishes in our Archdiocese unite as one body in mission and ministry. As Catholics, we unite in using our gifts and talents to serve others. Together, we are able to demonstrate our faith through the Archdiocesan Annual Appeal by advancing important programs for youth and young adults, social ministries, school students, our retired priests, ecumenical efforts, and the greater Church, as well as supporting central office activities such as faith formation, human resources, and communications. The following are just a couple of the ways that we help change lives through the Archdiocesan Annual Appeal: The Restorative Justice program assists crime

victims and their families, former offenders, the incarcerated and their families. It does so via its own outreach and through partnerships with community groups. The family of one young man killed in San Francisco said that without the Restorative Justice ministry, they “… would not have been able to meet other families already supported by this ministry, and through this support group … find comfort in the journey of … healing.”

Our generosity funds the Maker’s Space Initiative, a

program that brings science and technology to life for 4th and 5th graders at some of our Archdiocesan schools. In addition to the learning and enjoyment the students derive from the program, there has been a marked increase in the number of students expressing a desire to pursue careers in these fields because of the Maker’s Space Initiative.
