The month of January is dedicated to the Holy Name of Jesus, celebrated on January 3. The first twelve days of January fall during the liturgical season known as Christmas, which is represented by the liturgical color white a symbol of joy, purity and innocence. The remaining days of January are the beginning of Ordinary Time, which is represented by the liturgical color green. This symbol of hope is the color of the sprouting seed and arouses in the faithful the hope of reaping the eternal harvest of heaven, especially the hope of a glorious resurrection. It is used in the offices and Masses of Ordinary Time. The opening days of January may be cold and nature bleak, but the domestic church still glows warm with the peace and joy of Christmas. We dedicate the New Year to Mary on the January 1st Solemnity honoring her as Mother of God; and on January 7, the Solemnity of Epiphany, we rejoice with her, as her Son is adored by the three Wise Men. Herald John, who ushered in the Advent season, is present once again to close Christmastide on the feast of the Baptism of Our Lord, and to open the Season of Ordinary Time. He points to Jesus, the Lamb of God who unites time and eternity in the Eucharistic Sacrifice, and even January’s diminishing darkness seems to echo St. John’s prayer: “He must increase and I must decrease.” In this liturgical season the Church eagerly follows Our Lord as he gathers his apostles and announces his mission. At Cana’s wedding feast he performs his first public miracle at the request of his Mother, and his disciples saw his glory and believed in him. We, his present-day disciples pray for a like faith as we contemplate the eternal wedding feast of the Lamb and the unique role of the Blessed Mother in the plan of salvation. May we wholeheartedly obey her words of counsel: “Do whatever he tells you.” Catholic Culture St. Patrick’s Seneca Diocese of Peoria January 2020 176 W Union Street, Seneca, IL 61360 (815)-357-6239 www.senecastpatricks.com SMA Fathers Pastor : Ghislain INAI, SMA Curates : Augustin KASSA, SMA Deacon : Ron Wackerlin Parish Services Secretaries Andrea Hogan Mon/Tue 9-2:30 June Steder Wed/Thurs 9-4:00 Phone: 815-795-2240 Email: [email protected] Religious Education Jennifer Doloski (815)-357-8509 Rectory (815)357-6239 Parish Hall (815)357-8509 Cemetery Mr. Fran Kasten (815)357-8816 Mass Schedule Tues to Fri 8 am Saturday 4 pm Sunday 9 am Reconciliation Saturday 3:00 - 3:45 p.m. or by appointment. Cleaning Committees

For the new year we have hopes, aspirations and

goals. We even have resolutions. The past year has been

both exciting and challenging for members of our parish.

As a community, last year we made our ADA with the

contribution of all and, specially, a family that made a

donation to cover our shortfall. We are still collecting

toward this year's ADA, and the report shows we have a

shortfall of about $6,000. For Marquette Academy

Assessment, St. Patrick's, has not been able to make its

assessment for the past two or three years, but this year,

thanks to God and your support, we are doing our best

and paying our obligation towards Catholic education. I

encourage you to continue your highly appreciated

support to Marquette.

Having identified challenges, the Finance Committee

gave a talk to motivate parishioners, and we can all see in

the weekly bulletin that (most weekends) we are reaching

our goal to help cover parish costs. In addition, many

individuals anonymously help buy material without

turning bills in to be reimbursed; men and women give

their time to clean the church and its grounds for free!

This drastically reduces parish expenses. Some of our

parishioners have employers who will match charitable

contributions, and this brings in a nice amount yearly. If

you work in a company that offers such an opportunity,

please opt in for St. Patrick's. It helps! Our church has also

embraced online giving that we expect to grow steadily.

Please do not hesitate to enroll.

Last year St. Patrick's began the project Tending to our

Heritage. Its aim was to restore our beautiful church

building. The rectory’s roof was totally changed along

with part of the church’s roof. We are working on the

southwestern wall to straighten it, as it was leaning to

one side. Many have donated cash, time and talents to

equip the sacristy and restrooms in church and parish

center. I am grateful to you all.

Last year, Donald E. Muffler, Dorothy L. Buck, Henry

Nellett, Katelynn E. Ortiz, Gerald M. Stropili, Mario F.

Tolomei and Julie L. Bales (daughter of Gaile Nellett),

were born into heaven. Our community recorded one

marriage last year between Jacqueline Bilot and Robert

Runnels II. Additionally, we had 13 confirmations, 11 first

communions, and nine infant baptisms.

Looking back, I am positive and would like to say the

starting year will bring us graces and God’s blessing as we

continue placing our trust in God our savior. Happy New

Year.
