St. Patrick lived in Ireland over 1600 years ago. When he was a young boy he was a shepherd. Later, he studied to be a priest. He helped many people. The Irish people liked him very much. To honor him he was named a saint. People think he died on March 17.
Every year on March 17, people around the world celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. You don’t have to be Irish to celebrate. People like to wear green. They like to wear shamrocks. Shamrocks look like 3-leaf clovers. Sometimes there are parties and parades.
It is also fun to look for leprechauns on St. Patrick’s Day. Leprechauns are make-believe little men. They keep their treasures of gold in pots at the end of the rainbow. To find the gold, you must catch a leprechaun!
