ST. PAUL HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNAE NEWSLETTER October 2016 The Class of 1991 held its 25 th Class Reunion on June 4, 2016 at Dear Mom Restaurant in San Francisco. It was fantastic to share some delicious food and reminisce with our seventeen classmates who attended the Reunion. It was great to hear news about our classmates, friendships that are still going strong after twenty-five years, grandchildren and kids off to college and, of course, the hilarious times as students at St. Paul’s High School. Maria (Layna) Salazar ’91 - CLASS OF 1962 - Seventeen “girls” from the Class of 1962 met at the Spinnaker Restaurant in Sausalito on Thursday, June 15, 2016. A good time was had by all! These classmates really enjoy getting together, and they do, as often as possible. Suzanne White Barberini ’62 - CLASS OF 1961 - The 55 th High School Reunion for the Class of 1961 was held on June 9, 2016 at Val’s Restaurant in Daly City. The Luncheon began at 11:30 a.m. and the thirty-one Paulites attending had so much fun visiting and reminiscing they could have stayed on for dinner. Everyone talked and talked and shared memories and actually missed the opportunity of capturing a photo of the entire group! On our Graduation day in June of 1961, we were a class of 115 young women; 18 of our classmates are now deceased. We are blessed to gather regularly for reunions and to communicate with more than 50% of our class by email. A BIG request was that we not wait five years until we get together again. Robert and Michele have been nominated for Primetime Emmy awards for their writing in the pilot (2010) and the finale (2016) of The Good Wife. The show was nominated as outstanding drama series in 2010 and 2011. They won the Writers Guild of America (WGA) award

– GLOBAL SISTERHOOD –

Vietnamese IHM (Immaculate Heart of Mary) Sisters Chinh, Tram and Tuyen are pictured in front of the BVM Motherhouse, Mt. Carmel, in Dubuque, Iowa. Sisters Tram and Tuyen will live at Mt. Carmel while taking classes at Divine Word College in Epworth, Iowa, and Sr. Chinh will attend a college in Connecticut. Their congregation was founded in 1958 in Nha Trang diocese in Vietnam. Their ministry focuses on parish work, social work, and education. The Vietnamese government does not allow the Sisters to work in primary, secondary or higher levels of education. They are only allowed to run schools for Kindergarten children. They do have schools for the mentally and physically handicapped, and the need for more of these is great, but the Sisters are not allowed to open more of these schools because of lack of money and government restrictions. Their community totals 503 members.

The Alumnae Board

The Newsletter

Dear Alumnae: When Sister Karen Conover moved to Mt Carmel last summer, the Newsletter became my most important Alumnae task. The Newsletter is the Alumnae’s only form of communication – it’s what connects us to each other – and I promised to keep it going, no matter what! Never, ever having worked on a Newsletter in my life, I struggled to get the October 2015 to you on time, and with as few errors in it as possible, and I have tried to do that with the last two Newsletters, too. I have heard from so many of you, and your kind words about how important the Newsletter is to you have really touched my heart. I am so very grateful to you for sharing your thoughts about the Newsletter with me. Thank you. And I have heard from some of you who have expressed your anger and upset that your name was misspelled, left out, or you were misquoted. To you, I express my apologies. The Newsletter is sent to 2700 alumnae, and 300 read it online, and ONLY 177 of you have paid your annual dues. If you like receiving the Newsletter, remember It takes money to get it to you. If the dues that are collected do not cover the cost of the mailing, the balance is taken from the proceeds of the Fundraiser, diminishing the tuition assistance.
