Pastor: Who can stand before such a holy God? Who can stand before the Lord of Glory? We tremble at your Name, O Lord, for we are not holy as you are holy. We need your mercy and grace. So, we come before you, confessing our sins and seeking your mercy.

Response: Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, Judge of all people, we admit and confess our sinfulness. We have turned away from each other in our thinking, speaking and doing. We have done the evil you forbid and have not done the good you demand. We do repent and are truly sorry for these our sins. Have mercy on us, kind Father. Cleanse us in Baptismal grace. Forgive us all that is past. With the power of the Holy Spirit empower us to live a life worthy of your most holy name.

Pastor: For the sake of His Son, Jesus Christ, God has promised forgiveness of sins to those who repent and turn to him. Upon this your confession and by the command of our Lord Jesus Christ, I forgive you all your sins in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. May he keep you in grace by the Holy Spirit, lead you to greater faith and obedience, and bring you to live with him forever.

Response: Amen. Litany of Response (based on Psalm 29, ESV) Pastor: The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; Response: The LORD sits enthroned as king forever. Pastor: May the LORD give strength to his people! Response: May the LORD bless his people with peace! Song of Response: “You Are My All in All”

Prayer of the Day Old Testament Reading: Isaiah 43:1-7 Pastor: This is the Word of the Lord. Response: Thanks be to God. Epistle Reading: Romans 6:1-11 Pastor: This is the Word of the Lord. Response: Thanks be to God. Gospel Reading: Luke 3:15-22 Pastor: This is the Gospel of the Lord. Response: Praise to you, O Christ! Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Hymn of the Day: “In Christ Alone” In Christ alone, my Hope is found, He is my Light, my Strength, my Song; This Cornerstone, this Solid Ground, firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease, My Comforter, my All in All, here in the love of Christ I stand. In Christ alone, who took on flesh, fullness of God in helpless Babe. This gift of love, and righteousness, scorned by the ones He came to save; ‘Til on that cross, as Jesus died, the wrath of God, was satisfied, For every sin on Him was laid, here in the death of Christ I live. There in the ground, His body lay, Light of the World by darkness slain. Then bursting forth, in glorious day, up from the grave He rose again! And as He stands, in victory, sin’s curse has lost its grip on me, For I am His, and He is mine, bought with the precious blood of Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death, this is the power of Christ in me; From life’s first cry, to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No power of hell, no scheme of Man, can ever pluck me from His hand, (PAUSE) ‘Til He returns, or calls me home, here in the power of Christ I’ll stand; Here in the power of Christ – I’ll stand!
